Pipe tobacco tins make excellent travel and storage items for three piece razors and soap.
For a razor, I used an Erinmore tobacco tin. This tobacco is pressed into a plug and cut into slices and comes in a tin that measures approx. 2 1/4" X 3 5/8". I cut a piece of foam rubber and inserted into the bottom of the tin. The lid presses snugly onto the contents and secures them as long as the foam rubber is thick enough to push the razor a bit over the top edge. A tech with the handle separated from the head and a few blades fit perfectly. Most rectangular tins are a bit larger but will work just as well.
For the soap, I used the more common round tin that measures 4" across;and 1" deep. I melted and poured about 1/3 puck of VDH which is adequate for most travel and that left a about 1/2" to build lather.
A good aspect of tobacco tins is that they are made to keep tobacco air tight and have rubber seals on the inside of the lids so wet soap doesn't present a problem.
So if you don't smoke a pipe, seek out friends or co-workers that do and have them save their tins for you.
If you are a crafty sort you could cover the tins with material or thin leather but I like them as they are as the labels usually have an adequately sophisticated "manly" look to them.
Keep an eye out for metal tube with a secure lid for your brush and you'll be set.
If guests spot the tobacco tins they will assume you are a politically incorrect sophisticate and admire you all the more.
