Top 10 Artisan Shaving Soaps

1. Sapone Di Paolo
2. Dr. Jon's
3. Barrister & Mann
4. Caties Bubbles
5. Sterling

One is definitely number one but the others are pretty much number two for me.

I don't own 10 Artisan soaps. Here's my list

1. PAA due to quality and vast scent choices.
2. The Holy Black Gunpowder Spice is so fine and Lavender Creeper is just simply perfect.

My other soaps include:

TOB
Lucky Tiger
TAOS (sandlewood)

I Coloniali
Mason Boutique
Chiseled Face
PAA
CRSW

Oleo Soap Works
Mystic Waters
Chiseled Face
Sudsy Soapery
Wholly Kaw
Barrister and Mann
Soap Commander

In that precise order.

Updated for new soaps:

My tops 10 artisan soap makers. Not in order.
1. Stirling. Scent variety and consistent performance at an incredible price make it my best overall value.
2. Route 66. It's right there for me.
3. Lisa's Natural Herbal Creations. This one came out of nowhere and was a gamble buy. The low price is not an indicator of the value here. The scent game isn't as strong here, but the performance really works for me. Post shave feel is incredible.
4. Cold River Soap Works. Great, sophisticated scents, good performance.
5. Barrister & Mann. Interesting, creative scents, solid performance.
6. Henri Et Victoria. Cognac and Cubans alone gets marks for the scent.
7. Sudsy Soapery. Scents are ok. Performance is amazing.
8. Jeeves of Hudson Street. Just came on my radar and it's there to stay.
9. Wholly Kaw. Holy cow.
10. Grooming Department. Just got ahold of this, and will be ordering more.

Agree 110% with Lisas Natural, it and Stirling outperform their pricepoints by a wide margin. Any number of my soaps could make the 8-10 spot and Lisas is one of them. I think her scents are fabulous, and some are more than just simple scents. The Amber & Tobacco and Black Velvet are so, so smooth.

And she's a helpful vendor as well. She made me a matching balm for one of her soaps that I liked and that wasn't available yet. And she has helped me out over the phone with a complicated gift order that I'm sure was a pain for her. The Cedar & Saffron and Gentlemen's Lavender are favorites.

1. Razorock 'What the puck" line -- don't knock it till you try it. This one really blew me away.
2. Pre de Provence 63 - I know it is not artisan but I had to put it on the list
3. Stirling
4. Soap Commander
5. Italian Barber Amici -- better than it is given credit for. I love the smell. I really love the smell.
6. Razorock soft soaps

Will try some soaps in the future B&M and Soapy Bathman.

L&L
Mystic Water
Saponificio Varesino
CRSW
Catie's Bubbles
Stirling
Dapper Dragon
Soap Commander
Maggard

The top 3 could be 1a, 1b, and 1c. The rest are great but not quite on the same level.

  1. Barrister & Mann - Seville and Cheshire, in that order, will always be in my rotation. The seasonals and others on their release schedule, while also great performers, have scents that are a bit much for me. Hallows is a good example.
  2. Cold River Soap Works - Nearly as good a performer as B&M, but the scents are more elegant. Limenthol is a summer staple, and Citrus is wonderful.
  3. Mike's - Great performer, but the scents are a so potent that I don't often reach for them.
  4. Stirling - Hard to beat for the price. True for their pre-shave oils, too.
