Took a Phone Survey from Gillette Today

I figured that you gents would be interested in this. My cell phone rings this afternoon and the number calling is odd, only 4 digits. I pick it up, and on the other end is a woman with an Indian accent. She is doing a survey about shaving habits, and I figured I'd indulge her. They asked mostly about the Proglide, but there was an entire bevy of questions. They asked how I rated their proglide (pretty decently), if I thought it was a good value for the money (nope), if I liked the trimming blade on the back (nope, never use it), etc. It seemed like they repeated plenty of questions with different wording, and I parroted the 'proglide carts are too expensive' line a whole bunch of times. I figured the survey would last for 5 minutes, but after I got off the phone I saw it was a 25 minute call! I hope those call center people aren't paid by the completed survey, as I doubt many Americans would have the patience to finish the survey.

One series of questions asked about the razor I was currently using. She asked out of the last ten times I shaved, how many times had I used the proglide. I replied zero. She asked what brand of razor I had been using, and I replied that I was using a double edge razor. She asked if it was a Gillette DE, and I told her it was a Merkur. That seemed to be a major stumbling block. I don't speak German and probably mispronounced the name, and this lady most likely is in India and English isn't her first language.

Gillette sent me a mach3 with four extra cartidges on my 18th birthday so I wouldn't mind if I had do a survey for them.

Thanks for passing that along, and thanks for telling them people still use DE's. Not that I think it will come to much, but at least you put it out there.

I would not mind doing a survey for them just to give the wet shavers a voice, but that free cart shaver is just to get you hooked on the expensive carts. Its like a crack vendor giving you a "free sample".

I have done two consumer products tests at home. One was for whitening strips (looked exactly like the Crest strips when they first came out) and the other was for 3 bladed disposable cartridges. I got the phone survey afterward, and like yours, she asked the same sort of questions over and over. I kept telling her that I would buy those cartridges if the price was right, but I expected they would be too much. Finally, she said, "But you were given those cartridges for free!" as if I wouldn't actually have to pay for future cartridges. I'm sure I came off sounding very cheap, but I'm not going to break the bank for good shaving hardware.

If you're interested in telling Gillette about your shaving preferences, fill out their online survey.
