Too much water possibly?

So I got some Mama Bear's soaps(vanilla cream, vanilla sandalwood and Lime Ice). Since I called in to work today I finally had time to shave and figured I would try out the Lime Ice. My first menthol shave soap and WOW that thing is cold. Anywho I shook my brush (omega 636 silvertip) a couple of times gently and went to work. I got TONS of lather hilariously quickly but it was very light and had a lot of bubbles. It didn't protect much and any pass after the first tended to vanish before I got to it. I don't think it's a problem with the soap at all..I just figure I had way too much water still. I'm used to italian soft soaps..this is my first non-italian non-soft soap soap. Opinions?

Yeah probably started out with too much water.. I had the same results that you did at first. I let some hot water soak into the soap for a few minutes, start with a drier brush, load the heck out of the brush then slowly add water.

Agreed with the above posts. That's my favourite soap and it provides a really good lather really quickly, but I find I have the same issue sometimes when I use a silvertip. It's a no brainer when paired with a boar. Perfect lather every time.

Don't be afraid to add more soap. My concern used to be saving product. However, I got to the realization that when I built crappy lather, then my face was getting unnecessarily irritated. Once I started using excess product even, did my shaves get better and irritation free.

More product and maybe more lathering time. I can usually take a fluffy lathering explosion and turn it into decent lather with enough swirling and painting strokes with my brush.

I agree with all the other posters, but another option you may try is to just keep face lathering until it gets nice & thick. Easy no-brainer lather, and you can get away with about 5 swirls on the soap. It won't hold up for the next pass, but you can just add more water, do another few swirls, and repeat.

Just tried again with less water and a LOT longer loading..to the point both arms were getting tired. Still hardly got a damn thing, light lather that was mostly vanished after about 30 seconds. After the first passed I rinsed out the brush and bowl and tried with my non-broken in Semogue. Got ever so slightly better results..hopefully it will get much better once it's broken in. Otherwise I have over $30 (if you count shipping~) of unusable soaps.

...I really need to learn to order samples.

Sounds like you had too much water.
Don't be gentle with shaking out the water from your brush. It's already dead.
It's easier to add more water as you go.
Are you bowl or face lathering?
