ToBS Shave Cream: How much do you use?

I'm new to DE shaving, so I wanted to ask how much of the shave cream you typically use. Do you scoop some into a bowl, or do you just tap the brush into the tub of cream? I saw a video of a guy scooping a glob of it from the tub with his finger as if he was getting ready to grease an axle!

I've just been dipping the damp brush into the ToBS tub a couple of times and then beginning to lather in a mug. It's working fine, but I'm not sure if its "right".

Thanks for your help.

i scoop the tip of a collar stay into the cream and then smear it into a bowl.....weighs about 2 or 3 grams worth.

I use a small plastic sample spoon for creams (holds about 1/8 tsp).

I use the wet brush to push the cream off of the spoon and clean it off front and back. Then go to making lather

Fantastic idea, Turtle. And jmsodpc, I have something that looks like a collars stay (Brilliant idea!) with a sort of scoop on the end of it. It should work like a combination of Turtle's spoon and your collar stay.

Thanks for the advice. Really appreciate it. I'll give it a go tomorrow!

I dip the brush in and usually do two full rotations, if it's a harder cream like my ToBS Avocado or AoS Sandalwood. More liquid creams I just dip it in like ToBS Eton College or Lavender. Hard creams like AdP I'll scoop a small amount out with my finger and put it directly on the brush.

Depends on which TOBS cream, I find some seem to lather easier than others. The Almond one for instance, needs more product, than the Eton College. YMMV!

A snurdle is exactly the correct amount needed to make enough lather for a multi-pass shave. I tend to err on the side of caution and normally use about 95% of a snurdle.

I use my finger to get roughly a almond size blob. I use too dip my brush, but was finding I was getting too much.

So good...

This is what I try to do, but if I'm being honest, I'll usually overshoot that amount because i HATE running low on lather!

I use about 75 per cent of what is pictured there. However, TOBS needs an insane amount of water or your razor will skip and stick on your face. I had to use at least four tablespoons of water for one almond's worth. The lather is nice once you figure out how much water to use, however.

I avoid dipping because at times I take too much so I dab my finger in the bowl, grab a marble or almond size. or swirl and swab the brush sides on the bowl to remove excess

I too just swirl the brush in the cream and then face lather. If I need more it's a simple matter of touching the brush in the cream but to be honest this is rarely needed.

This is really interesting. I've used nothing but TOBS creams in the four weeks I've been DE shaving and I never get the foamy lather I had on my very first try. I think I may not be using enough water. I thought the problem could have been with the amount of product I w using (Hence this thread!), but now I'm thinking it might be the water.
