TOBS Jermyn Street

I've been using TOBS Jermyn Street soap for the last four days and just wanted to get everyone else's opinion about this soap.

The first two days I used it, I used it with the matching non-alcohol AS and my face was a sticky mess the rest of the day. The second day I used it, I used TSD AS splash, and while better, it still left my face tacky. Finally, I used it with Pinaud Citrus Musk. Much better than before, but I really enjoy the scent of Jermyn St.

Is this soap really this moisturizing?

I can't stand the tacky feel of some products. I may have to put this away until winter when the air begins to dry out a little. My overall impression is that this soap (aside from the scent), is average at best. The lather and slickness aren't special. The only thing special about this soap is its scent. I love the scent.

The tacky feel of the Jermyn AS will be there, soap or no soap. The stuff is virtually mineral oil with fragrance. I find the TSD AS better, but a little high in glycerin and so goes tacky easily if barely overapplied.

That said, I don't know the soap or how it may combine.

I don't get tacky from the soap. I can't use the AS. Your observations are pretty much dead on. Tobs soap is eh, but I love the Jermyn St and it doesn't give me skin allergies.

TOBS soap is not tacky, they did well with the scents in the line but the soap is not a protective and moisturizing as others out there.

Shavefreak, could you give some examples of those that are better in those departments? I have D.R. Harris, Pre de Provence, Klar Klassic and Kabinett,
3P and TOBS sandalwood for comparison. Thanks! Oops, also QCS!

Not shave freak but performance alone I'd take all those (except for 3p and kabinett only because never tried). I keep it around because it is good enough, smells great, and easy on my skin. If tobs sandalwood works for you this will.

The performance is acceptable, but ranks in the lower 1/3rd of my collection. Institute Karite, Mike's, Tabac, D.R. Harris, iColoniali, RazoRock, Valobra, LaToja, AoS, Provence Sante, and Cade all perform better. I would put it on the same level at Erasmic in the tub.

Razo rock XX for $9.00 is probably the best value in a soap on the market. It is a no brainer to buy. Martin de Candre and Aqua di Parma are super expensive but amazing soaps.

A fantastic middle of the road price wise is Panna Crema - they are never in stock but be patient and lucky and you will find some, just exceptional soap nothing better just as good as MDC and ADP above.

Strop Shoppe barber shope special edition with tallow is a great soap, just like the above and you get a lot of it.

Tabac is very very good if you like the scent.

All of the above lather in seconds have a large hydration window holding and managing water and are super protective. I have tried them all and they are at the top.

You can research them all but they are the best of the best.

When you get bored of the above the Sterling line is an insane soap for $5.00 a puck - not as easy to lather like the above but great performance and unusual scents. I put Mike's, DR Harris, Kabinett on a similar level as Sterling but not as good as the one's I mentioned up Top.

I think most people over water when staring their lather, I submerge the brush, squeeze out all the water and shake and start there and dip the tips in the water as needed. I make thick yogurt lather, not airy fluffy soapy merenge. Think drywall mud.

While I find RazoRock veggie soaps (XX) to be a good value, I think their tallow offerings are much better. Sadly, my favorite (Mudder Focker) is no longer available. But, I have 3 tubs in reserve. :)
