TOBS Jermyn St. and Penhaligon's Endymion. How Similar?

For those of you who have tried both (I've only tried TOBS Jermyn St.) how similar are these two shave creams in terms of scent and performance? I have a tub of Jermyn St., as well as the aftershave products in that line, but I do not have a Pen's shave cream so I have no idea how they perform except that I've read that the creams are much better than their current soaps. I had a sample of Pen's Endymion cologne and I thought that the scent was somewhat similar to TOBS Jermyn St..... but I'm wondering what everyone else thinks. I'm in the market for a Penhaligon's shave cream.... but not sure which scent to spring for. I like Opus 1870 cologne as well.... so I'm considering that one too. While I don't like the longevity and drydown of Blenheim Bouquet cologne..... I could see that the shave cream could have a very pleasent scent. Any thoughts on Penhaligon's creams would be greatly appreciated. I've decided not to try any of their shave soaps based on the reviews of others. Thanks!!

I own both and to me they smell nothing alike. I find Endymion to be spicier scent than Jermyn Street. All Pens creams are fantastic performers. I also own BB cream and it smells sublime. I like Endymion for the Fall/Winter, but I think Opus would be great as well. Skip the Pens soaps and go with their creams.

I'm out of containers at the moment but I'd be happy to send you a sample of Endymion cream when I pick up more containers Friday. If you'd like to try some just PM me and let me know.

Like night and day to me.

Endymion is a gourmand like frag with lavender, coffee and vanilla. Heavy and suited for fall and winter.

Jermyn St is a fougere like frag and more about bergamot and lime - with tiny bits of lavender and vanilla in far background. Better for spring and summer.

YMMV

I have both and agree completely but would add that while the TOBS is a very nice cream, the Endymion is a richer, moister and slicker cream. I also have the Opus which has a more intense scent than the Endymion which is about the same as the colognes.
While I really do like both of the Pens, I find the D.R. Harris creams just as well composed.

I'd like to thank xillion.... he's graciously offered to send me a couple samples of the Pen's creams. I can't wait!

I find the Penhaligon Shaving Creams to be far superior to any in the TOBS line - far better lubricating and intense scent, you are in for a treat!

Just got my samples from Chris (xillion). How generous. Thanks so much. I'm at work so I can't wait to get home and lather one of these creams up. He sent me shave cream samples of Pen's BB and Endymion.... and the new Proraso blue!! (which I've been wanting to try since it became available over here in the States). He also sent an AS balm sample of Pen's BB. Can't wait to try these out. I'm excited.

Used the Pen's Endymion for this evenings shave. I used my Savile Row 3824 badger brush and lathered it up in my G20 scuttle. The scent of the cream really is different from TOBS Jermyn St. I got more of a spicy, peppery scent. Really wonderful scent. Like most of these creams from perfume houses, the scent is really spectacular. Performance was excellent as well. The consistency of the cream pre lather reminds me of T&H creams. The cream is like a bowl latherer's dream. Whips up very nice in my scuttle. Very slick and stable. Although my experience is limited to these products, the lather, to me is reminiscent of MdC soap. I might've gone a little light on the product since I was being stingy trying to save as much of my sample as possible for my next shave with it. Next time, I'll try a little more. I actually shaved this morning so I only really wanted enough lather for a 2 pass shave anyway. In the early goings, I'm very impressed. I'll probably try Pen's Blenheim Bouquet tomorrow.

Well.... after my experiences with these cream samples I've gone ahead and placed orders for all of them. I also ordered a couple tubes of Pen's aftershave balms. They seem expensive, but the tubes or emormous 5 oz. tubes.... which is twice the size of some.... so they are not as bad as they seem. Thanks Chris, you've made me a fan of these creams..... and mostly their scents. They are all the best of both worlds really.... great performance and scent.

I'm a big fan of Pens BB and have the cream in the tube and tub and a tube of the ASB. Welcome to the club!

Glad you liked the creams Ben. I've always enjoyed using Penhaligon's creams. Did you buy Opus as well?

Chris,

Thanks again. Yes, I did buy tubes of the Opus 1870 shave cream and AS balm. I know that I like the scent from a Pen's cologne sampler I have. Got the BB shave cream in the glass jar, tubes of the Endymion shave cream and AS balm, and I also ordered a tube of the Proraso blue shave cream. I already have the Proraso blue AS balm and I really love the scent of that one as well.... and performance wise.... well, it's Proraso.... what else can I say? It's a great performer. I have yet to receive any of these yet however.... just waiting patiently. :biggrin1:

Thanks! I like the BB scent but it just has no longevity on me at all. One evening last week when I used the sample of the AS balm that xillion sent me I went to tell my daughter "good night" and she gave me a kiss on the cheek and said "MMMmmm.... you smell good".

Well, a few shipments of high end products arrived today, among the contents:

Penhaligon's Opus Aftershave Balm
Penhaligon's Endymion Shaving Cream
Penhaligon's Endymion Aftershave Balm
Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet Shaving Cream in glass jar
Floris No. 89 Shaving Cream

Unfortunately, the Pen's BB jar of cream leaked. The box has all sealed up in cellophane from the factory, but the lid must've come loose at some point and the shave cream is rather runny in consistency compared to others.... so it leaked all inside the box and over the jar label. The jar is a tremdously heavy duty glass jar and is just beautifully made and well done. Ultra classy IMO. Except for all the stains and cream juice that spilled out. The issue is being addressed with the vendor at the moment and it will all work out okay in the end I'm sure.

Anyway, Santa came a bit early. This stuff was not supposed to arrive until the day after Christmas.... nice surprise  .

Shaved with the Floris No. 89 cream this evening. The scent is very much spot on the EDT IMO. I got the Floris cologne sampler for men about 9 months ago. While I don't exactly care for the dry down of the No. 89 cologne.... the scent of the shave cream is very nice overall for the short while you are smelling it while you shave. The performance was very good.... very much similar to the Pen's creams I've been trying out lately as well. Very slick lather. I used an R41 with a Gillette 7 O'Clock SP Blue blade and darn it if I didn't nick myself a few times. I love the R41 but man you've got to be careful. Anyway, the nicks have healed for the most part and a very good shave overall.
