TOBS Eton College Shave Cream: Scent

Hi everyone! I recently blind-purchased some TOBS Eton College Shave Cream, looking for a nice refreshing summer cream. This is what TOBS says about the scent on their own website:

...dominant citrus lemon notes combined with fruity citrus notes of orange and mandarin. All this is blended with gentle floral notes that rest on a base of warm patchouli...

When I opened the tub, the first scent that hit me was MUSK. If you've ever had a chance to sniff Jovan Musk, I honestly thought Eton College was a Jovan Musk scented shave cream. I definitely get the complex citrus notes, lemon, some orange fruit, and grapefruit to be precise, but ZERO patchouli. It smells pretty nice, but very musky to my nose, and I have never read anyone say this anywhere. My test hand-lather left a very nice citrusy-powdery scent once my hand was dried off but that musk.....it's really loud to me.

So my question is, does anyone else concur with my assessment of the scent of Eton College cream? I'm wondering if I may have gotten a tub of some other TOBS fragranced cream that might have been poured into the wrong container. Thanks!

I had a tub of this a few years back, didn't care for it so when I used it all I never bought another,
I remember it as being very citrus dominant, and don't really memember any musk notes.
That's just me, would also like to see other peple give some input.

I've used it some... 3-4 years ago (?) and as far s I can remember "fruity citrus" is about right. I liked it. That and Mr. Taylor, which is a typical "cologne" scented cream, very modern.

Jovan scented English shave cream sounds amazing, good for you. That stuff is friggin manly. Musk scents will come back into fashion sooner or later, once we all get tired of all these freshie scents.

If I didn't already have 11 million shave soaps, I'd gladly purchase of tube of Eton College. Sounds great. Tabac smells a bit like JM as well.

I really dislike musk. I really like Elton College. So...no.

i get a light, English cologne smell with lots of citrus.

Eton College is my “go to” cream, and I love it because of the clean citrusy smell. I’ve never smelled musk and I’ve had probably 6 tubs. I will say one tub was bad - the consistency was thin and almost stringy and had little scent. That’s my only bad experience w TOBS.

Big fan of Eton College, shaving cream and matching EDT are a regular for me. Gotta say that no I don't pick up a musk scent either

I recently bought a tub of this and shaved with it last week. I don’t get the Musk smell....I smell citrus... specifically lemon.

I've had Eton College and I've lived Jovan Musk, by that I mean it was at its height popularity wise when my "stepping out" days were getting into swing. All the Jovans were on my counter. Musk, Grass Oil, Sex Appeal,....laughable. But I sensed absolutely no JM in Eton College. None.

I'll probably give that scent a try.

The only one I used is Jermyn Street from TOBS and I love it.
I tend to go for the fruity, sweet, or citrus smelling shaving cream/soap.

I've not used the Eaton College but I can tell you the the Sandalwood is very nice and the Cedarwood was stellar as I recall....

I dont get musk either on EC. There is no truth to the rumor that ec will make you smarter either. Or feel royal. I haven't used it in some time but i got the whole set deodorant cologne soap aftershave. Musk is not what i get.

Agreed, it's not musk to my nose, but some kind of like... citrusy misty powder without being a "powder" smell. Like the smell of the inside of a bottle of lightly flavored tangerine/orange antacid tablets. Hard to describe but delightful stuff.

I don't get musk either in the EC, but everyone's schnoz is different. The most important thing is whether or not you like the scent generally. I like the scent of EC, so it's in my regular rotation.
