Tightening a DE

Hey guys, couldn't find this in a search, so I'll just start a new thread. My question is: Does it matter how far you tighten a DE? the reason I ask this is because I've noticed that when I unscrew the handle and put in a new blade and then start screwing on the handle again I get to one point where it's tight and the blade is still straight. However, I can still keep tightening it more, and by doing this, the blade starts to bend. So what's the proper amount to tighten the handle?
Should I stop when there is resistance? Or should I keep going until I can't go any farther?

I would suggest stopping once there is some resistance. Tightening it past that point won't help it hold the blade better. I do this with my Merkur HD and it works well.

Most of the three piece razors require the handle to be tightened so as to bend the blade. I do not believe the blade is to be straight or flat, however one wishes to phrase it.

Which Razor?

The razor should be screwed all the way down, but it can be over tightened and the threads can break off.

A twist to open razor like a superspeed should be turned an extra quarter turn once tight, in order to lock it down.

The Old Type Gillettes advertised loosening the head a 1/4 tun for a more aggressive shave.

I have a Gillette Safety Razor like the one you posted. I'm always amazed by the prompt and excellent responses I get at B&B. Thanks so much.

Be easy with the force you use; tight is tight. This is not high quality steel but weak zinc or brass you are working with so don't use all the force you have; my 10 year old was strong enough to pop off the threading with little effort.

Like someone said here once "They're not lug nuts". So tighten it down but don't over do it.
The blade should be bent (curved).
