What's new

Thought I loved my safety razors until I found this!

Before today I had a Merkur HD, 50s Super Speed, fatboy, and a gillette tech with aluminum handle (Marcas Regs).

If love my razors and it would be hard to rank the order from favorite to least favorite but if I had to

1) 50s Super Speed (A bit too mild be very comfortable shave)
2) Merkur HD (A bit too aggressive with some blades)
3) Fat Boy (Shaves well and I like the adjustabilty but head is too big)
4) Gillette Tech Marcas Reg (Better than nothing but skips a lot and too light)

TODAY AFTER 1 HOUR OF LOOKING AT THE ANTIQUE STORE I FOUND A 40S STYLE SUPER SPEED 48-50 NOTCHED. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE SEEN THIS IN A STORE AND BOUGHT IT FOR $6. IT CLEANED UP VERY NICELY. I JUST TRIED IT AND IT INSTANTLY BECAME #1. ANYONE ELSE LOVE THIS RAZOR?

The 40's Superstyle is a classic shave. It's one of my tops as well. Good find. Not a flashy fancy razor, but a good staple reliable shaver.

Yep, one of the best. In the short time I've been back into wet shaving, the 40s Super Speed has proven to be one of the best investments I made. So far I've tried various NEWs, Techs, Good Wills, A Bull Mastiff w/ NEW head, Super Speeds, Various 40s Aristocrats and a Diplomat, Merkur HD...and I'd put the 40s SS up there with any for quality of shave for my face.

I've got a couple dozen DEs, and the 48-50 SS is my favorite, followed closely by the Tech. Happy shaving!

I am going to go revisit it soon. Just got a Fatboy and have been using an Adjustable and the no-serial SS i have still gave quite comparable shaves. I have a bunch of new stuff on the way from WCS so I will give it a try again.

I have also found one in fair-ish condition (brassing and minor chrome pitting) that I may PIF for a n00b sometime soon.

Brilliant beginners razor, and a great classic for experienced guys; also a good no-nonsense traveller.

Yeah, my '47 SuperSpeed is one of the tops. Always delivers. I used this one as my top razor... until I got my Bull Mastiff. Now they have to share top billing. The old SS is just right, actually, that good combination of smooth, easy, close shave with no irritation.
