What's new

This is therapeutic

So, I've taken to this whole hobby as a form of meditation, I think. I am prone to anxiety and nervousness that sets on rather quickly, and I've been channeling this feeling into the realm of shaving. For one, I've never been a collector of something so specific before, and while I've always enjoyed going to antique stores and flea markets, having something specific to look for makes the activity that much more fun (or frustrating if I can't find anything).

Today ended up being one of those days, so I hopped in my car and drove out to the far reaches of the western suburbs to hit some antique stores I haven't been to before. I ended up with the following: a total of 21 vintage Blu-Strike DE blades, two '57 Blue tip SS, and a '66 slim adjustable. (along with a rad art-deco looking money clip for my cash)

I got some pretty good deals, and had a lot of fun roaming around antique stores looking in all the cases packed with smalls. Such an exciting feeling when you see something you're looking for :)

Agreed....my girlfriend thinks it's great that I want to go to antique stores with her, but also gets impatient when I'm not done looking before she's ready to head to the next one! :001_tongu

Great finds.

I'm going to try out a few flea markets and such myself. I've been meaning to. Thanks for the reminder.

Congratulations! I suffer from anxiety and have not had an attack in some time now but find shaving to be extremely relaxing and therapeutic as well. I never thought I would enjoy shaving back in the days of using my multi-blade razor, it's amusing how my outlook has changed :)

Very nice! I agree with you on the therapeutic end of things. This is a nice and relaxing hobby to focus the mind on! Do you mind if I ask whereabouts you found these beauts'? The Wheaton area or farther? There are great antique shops in Geneva, Batavia and St. Charles.

Congratulations. I have taught Tai Chi and Yoga. Wet shaving can absolutely be viewed as a meditation.

Ed, that is the exact area I was in. The superspeeds came from Antique Market I in St. Charles, the blades and Adjustable from Antiques of Winfield. I went to a couple of the ones in Geneva and they had quite an array of SE's and straights for good prices, but I mostly keep my eyes peeled for Gillettes, so I didn't pick them up. Definitely check out those two though because they had quite a few brushes and other items you might be interested in as well. I come from Naperville myself, and frequent Affordable Antiques and A1 Antiques here, and have found some good items in these places as well.

It really is amazing how a chore has become such an enjoyable part of my morning. And I am certainly not a morning person. :)
