What's new

They used to have one bottle of Royal Scottish Lavender.

...and now it's mine. Been wearing RSL from my decant this week in the sudden cool weather here. Really grew on me in a couple of days.

I figure this one is on the soon to be extinct list so I swung into Nieman and grabbed their last bottle. I see it's "Out of Stock" at the Creed online boutique which tells me it's probably not coming back into stock. So I've got my lifetime supply now.

I always liked it, but the recent wearings really impressed me enough to pop for a full bottle, especially since I figure it will be gone soon.

A nice, very Creedish, wet shaver kind of scent. It wears pretty lightly. Lavender and vanilla but with some other stuff thrown in that differentiates it from Caron Pour un Homme.

It probably leans on the mature, barbershoppy side, so if that's an issue, the extinction of this one will not phase you. Really digging it this week.

Since I got into Creeds about a year ago, I've never seen an opportunity to purchase a bottle of RSL anywhere online. It's been out of stock on Creed's online boutique for at least a year. Same with Royal English Leather. I assume that one is facing the same fate as RSL and the 1948 Vetiver. I'm wearing Creed Himalaya today and like all of the Creeds I own it is very nice. This is my first wearing of it since last winter.... I find it to be a nice fall fragrance.

Enjoy your lifetime supply.... although somehow I'm guessing it may not last you that long.

In before Nid. This is pretty good stuff, and I am almost certain it will be gone for good or at least vaulted, so you have done well for yourself. Great lavender scent with a touch of sandalwood in the base. Probably not quite up there with Vintage Tab, CdR, or REL, but still a winner in my book. I never got around to buying a bottle, but it is great stuff. Certainly a more mature vibe, so don't even think about this one Schad. :)

Definitely mature. Stuffy too. I don't like stuffy part very much. I like it because it's different, yet has a Creed brand all over it.

I'm on board with you on this. It doesn't match any of the other three you mentioned (three of my four favorite Creeds, the other being BdP), but it is a really fine fragrance. I'm kind of sad that I eventually fell out with it. I found that I liked it more in the abstract ("ah--the perfect lavender") than in practice ("hmm, what else can I wear today?"). I guess that, in the end, it wasn't RSL. It was me. We've gone our separate ways now, and I picked up a bottle of Caron PuH on the rebound. Cheap, but I'm getting by.

Not to change the subject off of RSL, but how do you like Caron PuH? I see it dates back to 1934 and comes in a good assortment of bottle sizes and that the aftershave is pretty readily available as well as a reasonable price. Is it pretty much a straight up lavender scent with a woody base? Looks like a classic, but I don't know that much about it. Usually something that's been around that long and is still in production is good stuff.

CPuH is a try before you buy. Definitely a classic. Lavender and vanilla. Classic wetshaver scent that has many lovers around here. There's a mustiness to it that keeps me from really enjoying it enough to buy a bottle.

I much, much prefer A Taste of Heaven by Kilian which is based in the same theme but using much higher quality, cleaner ingredients. It comes at a significantly higher price tag than the Caron, however.

CPH is a classic, and reflecting on wearing RSL yesterday, they are more than a bit similar. I think the vanilla is louder in CPH, and there's a more subtle and broader blend of notes in RSL. CPH is pretty straight forward lavender and vanilla to me. I do think the Creed is using better ingredients. They both wear pretty lightly and last about about the same. (though i have read some comments where some guys think CPH can get real loud on them). RSL has a bit of that classic Creed-ish signature that you get to know after you've worn a few of the older Creeds...it may be the ambergris.

I think both are maturish, wet shaver kind of scents. CPH is one of the most "comfortable" and relaxing scents I have. I don't like either much as a going out kind of scent. These aren't scents you wear to go out sarging. As Tehtimeh said, A Taste of Heaven is like these two on steroids. A strong, clearly high quality, long lasting lavender and vanilla with a bit of a modern twist.

I think if that kind of scent interests you, either is a good choice. I prefer the Creed for work. I also wanted to round out my "classic" Creeds collection since they are dropping like flies.

Pretty sure BDP is safe. They've began issuing the 4 oz. bottles now to match the Millesime line. Your post reminds me though..... I only have around half a bottle of REL left which is one of the very best leather scents ever made. I need to back it up before it is completely gone.

Well, probably not a rush, but who knows on the REL. Agree that BdP is likely safe. I believe that one sold very well after '87 introduction and probably still sells okay especially to some of the guys that got hooked on it late 80s. I actually would not personally categorize BdP as an "older" Creed. I thnk BdP and GiT are the two scents they launched mid 80s that put them on the map. Modern classics if you will.

My theory about the older Creeds like RSL, REL and some of the others is that they really stopped making them several years ago and they sell so slowly they've just been selling off the last batches they made. My usual Creed haunt is the Nieman Marcus in Beverly Hills and I witness the length of time some of the older inventory just sits there with no new bottles coming in. Theyve had one flacon of Windsor II for months. Who knows how long they must have had the bottle of RSL I just bought? 5 years? 10? 15?

I love classic wet shaver kind of scents; many of you love them too. But the average schmo stumbling around Nieman Marcus with $200 burning a hole in his pocket for some "wanna get me some tonight" juice is going to freak out smelling Baie de Genivre, REL or Royal Scottish Lavender. These are classic, manly scents that smell nothing like the "scent du jour" designer scents that Joe Average had been wearing until an aggressive Creed rep cornered him and started their spiel. With the perverse delight only a frag head can appreciate, I've stood and watched young guys getting worked by the Creed rep and seen them recoil in horror smelling some of the classics.

Creed has been pumping new stuff like Aventus because that's what's going to sell the most. I give them props though for putting out Windsor and the reissue of Fueille Verte.
