The Work Horse

Before I started wet shaving I would regularly go 3-4 days between shaves. Since then, very rarely do I go more than one or two days without a shave. However, when I do have a few days of growth, I find a blade that I usually can get two or three shaves out of, will only last for that one.

Being a big fan of carbon steel knife and tool edges, I recently acquired a sample of Treet Dura Sharp, and Classic blades. They seemed okay, but didn't knock my socks off, and really only seemed to last one shave for me.

To the point: I had a healthy 3-4 days growth going this weekend, and decided that if one shave was all I was going to get out of the blade, why not chuck up a Treet DS? So I did, and it was a thing of beauty! What a work-horse! Great feeling, non-irritating, close shave. It mowed through the tough stuff effortlessly. I will be ordering more of these for just such future occasions.

I've been thinking about some carbon steel blades - seems to me they could be resharpened by stropping on something - kind of like a carbon steel knife is easier to get an edge back on than a stainless steel knife.

Both the Classics and Dura Sharps deliver good shaves here, too. I don't usually get more than a couple of shaves out of each blade.

Interesting... I find that when I have a couple days of growth that my shaves are easier and closer, with less wear/tear on the blade.

IMHO, if your beard is thick/grows fast and you wait too long between shaves; the blade is doing more work. I take either saturday or sunday off from shaving. Job requires daily shaving.

Again, IMHO, face was rough for a few days and now it is smooth, mind may be playing tricks on you.
