Right, I saw the 'blade flipping' comment today, looked at it and thought, mmm, this is something that comes up quite often. I did a search and found the following:

I probably missed some but, it should summarized that flipping the blade seems to be in the gray zone. It will probably stay in there but I thought if we can track and record who does it, it would give a fair idea on how we use our blades.

If you vote yes or no, please give your input for your yes or no. There might be a valid reason do to it or not.

Another trick on how to extend your blade's life (if you want to do it) is hand stropping. However, we will keep it on flipping the blade. Hand stropping seems to work but I never had definitive results out of it.

Myself, I used to flip my blades and I stopped. I was able to maybe squeeze an extra shave out of the blade, sometimes not. I stopped doing it since there was no plus value. I understand the principle of having the edge of a blade in a "V" shape. If i use both side of the edge by flipping the blade, logically, I should get more out of my blade. It wasn't the case for me.

I found this picture a while back and thought it was interesting.

Your turn Gents!

I take the blade out after every shave, if I flip it it's purely accidental. I like the last line on the blade packaging.
Seems very abrupt, throw in at the last minute before they rolled off to press... "ALSO THE BLADE WILL LAST LONGER."

+1

Funny. Same here, if I flip it, it just happened!

Half the time I do it. When I remember. I don't notice anything bad when I do it. Does seem a little refreshed... but probably my imagination. Either way no down sides that I can see to doing this.

I don't think it does anything.

I don't even take the blade out of the razor until I'm going to throw it away.

Think about it. It's still the same bleeding edge, and no matter how you turn it the thing it's still worn down.

I don't flip, take out and rinse, pat dry. loosen doors...nothing...Pop it in shave 3-4 times rinsing off razor after each, pop out and dispose. pop in a new one. Scrub down razor every few changes.....

Folks, this is wet shaving, not brain surgery.

+1. No spa treatment for my blades either. At 3.3333333 cents per shave, I don't worry about it.

I tried flipping my Derby Extras a few times; I was intrigued by the numbered edges and sides.

My experience: flipping flippin' hurts. :001_smile

Won't do it again.

i usually flip between second and third shave , from the 1 2 side to the 3 4 side ,

just helps a little bit by reminding me of how many uses im on, switching between multiple de's i dont like certain blades in certain razors so i sometimes have 2 de's on the go and Se's, and a straight just takes some of the thought out of this :)

This comes up all the time. Flipping the blade does absolutely nothing to prolong it's life.

These blades are disposable, you aren't supposed to use them forever. They are cheap, too. Everyone wants to get the most out of their money, but giving yourself an awful shave to save a fraction of a cent, just isn't worth it to me.

Do brain surgeons flip their blades?

Those blades were manufactured at about the same time doctors believed cigarette smoking was good for you.

It's bad

This thread is actually pretty good considering how often the question came up. I think we got an interesting answer after a short period of time!

As above if I do it is accidental, blade often stay in razor till I bin it. I do swish the head in alcohol if it is a longer life blade like a Feather.
