One of the guys sent me a Rhodium plated Aristocrat that was in pretty poor shape and asked if I could replate in Nickel. Those who have read previous posts will know that Rhodium is difficult and costly to plate, so bright nickel is a good alternative.
The only thing is that the worn Rhodium needs to be removed first. Without going into great detail, removal requires a piece of Lead to use as an anode/cathode.
Has anyone tried to find lead recently? I went to a local DIY store and they had Lead flashing in stock for roofs - but a roll cost £140!!!
So, when I got home, out came my ladder and up onto my own roof to cut a small piece of Lead from the flashing on the front of the house. Luckily no one called the police suspecting that I was a thief removing the Lead!
Anyway, it did the trick and the Aristo is ready for polishing and replating, so worth the climb
