What's new

The son and I got a lesson...

I guess if you're going to learn, Charles is the best teacher!

Had a fun time with my 18 year old down at Enchante this morning. Picked up more than my share of goods as well, of course. Thanks to Charles for the clinic!

Now, that is too cool!

I have heard that most of us learned everything about shaving on our own. No input from fathers. That was the case with me. Fishing... yes. Shaving... no.

Very wise of you sir to turn the helms over to a top expert in educating your son in something he'll do nearly everyday the rest of his life.

Well, like Larry said, nobody ever taught me to shave, and I'm just learning true shaving at a young 42 years... When Charles offered us a clinic, my son got excited... So it was great father-son bonding and learning for us!

Yep, Charles may be the only vendor who cares more about your shave than you do. He may come across as arrogant and often talks more than listens, but he really cares.

I can see the Hydrolast shaving paste in one of the photos, but the cream on the son's face seems to be a traditional cream/soap.

Was the clinic based on using the set of Hydrolast products?

He's a serious kid. He was thrilled, though...

On the paste, that first lather is Hydrolast, all of the shave was. Block soap and cutting balm lathered in a shaving cloth and paste applied directly to the face... Charles gave him the whole run - finishing balm, tonic, etc... after this shave his face was shinier than his butt was the day he was born!

Your son is very lucky and the photo does capture the moment. He will remember this the rest of his life....... Congratulations

Yeah, hacksaw it is... - He uses it to cut the blocks of soap. :)

Here is anther pic, shows the counter better:

...and oddly enough, I got one good picture of each of them afterwards, just not in the same photo... :)

...and yes, it was a memorable time. I learned a LOT about the real simplicity and flexibility of Charles' way of shaving, and his products. I'll be honest - I was a skeptic until I used his stuff the way he intended it to be used. Not skeptical any more.

... and my son? He's hooked, trying to get me to buy him a DE (already bought his christmas present...) and wondering if he can shave this way in the dorms in the fall... he thinks there might be too little room, but I keep telling him if he does, he'll eventually have his room/dormmates doing it as well...

Were you using hydrolast products before this outing? If so I guess Charles helped bring things into a clearer view during the visit? I ask because I am off next week and was thinking of using some of the cash I get from Christmas to use at enchante.

Yes and no... He gave me a sample last week of soap, cutting balm and some paste that I had used once, Monday morning after watching his shaving101.com video. That was the only time I'd used his stuff before going down there for the clinic.

You're in Austin? I'd call him and schedule a clinic - he doesn't charge for it (and REALLY could!), and he'll really show you the ropes. I gathered that usually he does half of your face and you do the other half, from what he was saying... Be warned, though, if you don't have a list of what you want, you'll leave with one of everything!:biggrin1:

Frankly, with a cloth, soap, cutting balm and paste, you're set for the "in-shave" portion. My wife had wanted me to get a shmancy brush, instead I got that setup, and it was about the same cost as one.

Standing here rubbing my face that I shaved 12 hours ago, still in disbelief of how smooth it is... :)

So, you scheduled a clinic with him? How cool is that! Yeah.. I am in south Austin. So you would say that method shaving really works then.

The clinic was his idea... We went in last week to get a brush, and he wouldn't sell us one. Instead, he told me to watch his shaving101.com video, try the samples he gave me, and then schedule the clinic. You just call him a day in advance with a time or email him to set them up.

I've been a Sensor Excel in the shower guy for what, a decade? Bic disposables before that....Decided a couple months ago to finally go DE, got one about a month ago after reading about wet shaving and method shaving for a year...

Method Shaving works for me. Shaving, like so many things, is pretty individually specific and personal. Your mileage may vary, but I found that the forms were really how I already shaved, but written down. The combination of the forms and variants of them, the flexibility of the method, a DE and the Hydrolast stuff and I'm good to go.

The cool thing for me has been the added fun of bringing my new to shaving son along for the ride as well. It's been a cool bonding experience, and I be sure to do it with my younger son as well.

For a long time I think Charles slowed down on doing clinics and it's awesome to see him active and guys learning so much from them again. Unfortunately, I never did one myself when Chas and I first met several years ago, but I've probably spent more hours talking to him about shaving than most guys would ever care to :blushing:

Very exciting to see more Austin area shavers showing up here. I may have to organize another meetup here in the near future. The last one we had about 15 guys show up and it was a great time.

It's nice to see that Charles takes the time to "sell through education". When I was a salesman this is the best way to sell for both customer and self as it creates "relationship sales". He's looking for long term, repeat, educated customers. An honest businessman in times full of otherwise... :thumbup1:
