Argh. I donated to the Ohio Masonic Home yesterday when I wrote an overage for my dues, but I don't have a receipt as yet. I'll post it. :)

It's been mentioned, and it had occurred to me as well, that many charities, especially the most common like the Red Bucket, don't usually give receipts.
Due to this, entry will now be on the honor system.
I am adding a new criteria. In order to participate you must have registered prior to the start of the contest. i'll be editing the first post to indicate this.

if this new rule prevents you from entering, don't worry; there will be other fish.

I just mailed in a $20 donation to the food bank yesterday. I am also planning to donate our old washer and dryer to Christians in Action (a local charity here that gives out goods to those who need it). Please let me know if you need receipts for any of these items. I will be happy to supply them!

I will enter just once,

During this time of year I keep a few rolls of quarters and dimes in my car to give out to The Salvation Army bell ringers in front of stores. About halfway through my second roll of quarters so far this year and still have some shopping to do.

Happy Holidays

I mailed a $20 donation to the Salvation Army today, as well as putting some change into their kettle whenever I've been Christmas shopping.

Awsome PIF...thanks for offering. I donated a Christmas tree to Trees for Troops a local tree farm that partners with FedEx to send Christmas trees to our troops over seas.

awesome idea!
I donated to movember a few days ago, they raise money and awareness for mens health.. through a campaign where during the month of november we are encouraged to grow a mo

I have a payroll deduction through the Combined Federal Campaign. Four different charities will automatically receive donations for a year.

(American Red Cross, Prostate Cancer Research, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Shriner's Hospitals)

I am not working, so I can no longer donate cash, HOWEVER, I always make donations (they now call to see what I have they can pick up, LOL!!)
Clothes, appliances, etc, etc is what I donate now and it works.
They have stores, they get "free" merchandise, they sell it in the store and thus, have cash to help others.
I no longer give to Red Cross or United Way, but there are others I do give to, most notably-
- "Center of Hope" (they, I believe, are only local, maybe not, I am not sure, but I can see the help they are doing, so they get donations) (IMO, locally, they are the best, you actually run into people they are helping. They help people get off drugs, start a life, teen pregnancy, and a LOT of other things. They are pro-active, not just waiting for a disaster, but trying to prevent them also, that is cool!!)

- "League for Animal Welfare" (not the regular humane society)

- "Helping Hands" (another local center)

Several others, but those are the most recent.
I guess I am like most (I think?), I do not keep the receipt when I get one, some you get one, some you do not. I do not "give" for tax breaks, it usually would not make that big of a difference and that is not the "reason" for giving.

I made a donation this weekend to the Somaly Mam Foundation. I have also donated a bag of toys for the Salvation Army. Local TV station had a bunch of names on "Angels", each tag tells the name and age of the child, and what they wished for.

I regularly donate and did donate recently to the local city temple of my faith. They are a non-profit organization that support giving free vegetarian meals to everyone who attends. I can provide you with a receipt if you need one. Thanks for the PIF, very generous.
