Okay guys, I can understand that you are enjoying your new hobby, and want to put a shout out when you try a new shaving method and what have you, but ...

... we really don't need any of those "nudge nudge wink wink" titles, especially around "sexual first-time slang" themes.

I know you are all a decent bunch of gents, and won't mind keeping things polite.

... and now for something completely different:

You rock, Doc!

I am a poet you know

I'm a poet and didn't even realize it!

Edit: Apparently I had the pleasure of not noticing most/all of the threads this one is referencing. Yay blissful ignorance!

Edit edit: Inappropriate thread titles make Limecat not pleased.

So, no discussion of extra-virgin olive oil in the Barber Shop either? Come on guys...this is by no means an inappropriate reference.

... ummmmm ...

... actually, I'm not sure if you are trying to make a joke, think that we are trying to stop people from talking about olive oil, or support the "shaving virginity" thread titles.

(FWIW, I don't think titles about extra virgin olive oil ... unless they have a naughty Popeye reference ... are likely to be offensive. Just in case you were wondering ... )

I'm not opposed to the use of "virginity" in thread titles. Its not offensive and is an appropriate use of the term. Just as it is when describing first press olive oils, or un-recycled vinyl in records...shoot DJs used to use the term "virgin vinyl" when spinning a record for the first time.

I really think the "sensitivity" level to words is being taken to far. Can a first time user of a DE razor be more clever and less banal in their description...sure. But to be offended by the use so much to say "we really don't need" such and such. Really? We are all adults here aren't we?

I believe the objection wasn't to the use of the term "virgin" (and its variants) per se or in an appropriate context. The objection, with which I agree, is the unnecessary sexualizing of titles, etc. ... the intentional MISuse of terms or the using of terms in an inappropriate context. Are we all adults here? Sure. But, if we are holding ourselves to the terms and standards of gentlemanliness, then there are some things a gent doesn't do (or at least strives his darndest to avoid) whether he's an adult or not... one of those things is unnecessarily crude or suggestive speech. There is no objection to being funny or clever, just keep it appropriate and gentlemanly.

I'm sorry...go look at the TV show from childhood thread, its a sexual objectification lust fest (myself included). How about the Ginger/Maryanne thread? How about every time someone brings up Diana Rigg?

I guess all of these things are things gents don't do and we should ditch this kinda talk too...right?

No one in any of those threads has been crude, nor has any thread title I have seen.

Take it easy fellas, you may find yourself bored to death.

Yup:thumbup:

I don't really care to partake in the discussion in this thread, but I thought I would mention that this made me chuckle:

"(FWIW, I don't think titles about extra virgin olive oil ... unless they have a naughty Popeye reference ... are likely to be offensive. Just in case you were wondering ... )"

Hahah...

Whatever you guys say, goes, but I do find this one a bit silly. (Glad I saw this before I try a straight for the first time! :w00t:)

Edit: to be fair, I can imagine examples of this type of thread title that would push or exceed the bounds of good taste, but I haven't seen actual titles like that out here.

Search for the word "virginity". You'll find several threads with these childish titles.

These threads aren't offensive, they're just annoying. I mean, seriously, would you want your kid to tell you that he/she lost his/her virginity everything he/she does something new?
