The King's Birthday Today: Share your most favorite song and/or concert

It all started around 8 years ago. I was listening to FM radio in the night when they play nice soothing songs. On that particular night, they played "I just can't help believing" sung by Elvis Presley. I knew and had read about Elvis Presley but had not listened to his songs before - now before you get shocked with that statement, do remember that I'm from India:) The first time I listened to his voice rendering the lines, I was just mesmerized and hooked. And from that night started my love for Elvis' songs and my joining of the legions of Elvis fans worldwide. Fast forward 8 years, I have almost all of the king's songs now and listen to his songs & voice pretty regularly:001_smile

Today's the king's birthday and it would be great if the Elvis fans among the B&B brethern would share their most favorite Elvis songs. For those who have had the good fortune of seeing Elvis live in concerts, please share your most favorite moments and songs from the concert that you attended!

I'll go first!

My most favorite song would be Elvis version of "I just can't help believing". There are quite a few others from Elvis' golden period, the 50's, but I chose this song because it is the song that started it all for me!

holy smokes! i gotta pick one!? A Little Less Conversation- "a little more bite and a little less bark". I like the tempo. as well as Suspicious Minds. I'm to young to have seen him in concert but I took the tour of Graceland and the museums and planes. It was all fascinating.

Finally, a response after few hours! I was beginning to think that there are not many Elvis fans around here in B&B:001_smile

It sure is pretty difficult to select just one song! I missed to visit Graceland when I lived in US but me & my friend who's also an Elvis fan hope to make a trip to the US just to visit Graceland!

I went back in 2004? I wouldn't mind going again. I'm sure they have changed some things. My favorite part was the record room. WALLS of nothing but gold and platinum albums.

Blue Christmas is definitely my favorite Christmas song. There are so many great songs to choose from, but I'll go with Suspicious Minds at the moment. I also like the live song where he keeps cracking up. I think it was Unchained Melody, but I don't feel overly confident about it.

Cool thread!

i'm not a huge E fan, but at her request, i danced to The Wonder of You with my mama at my wedding. awwww!

my personal favorite is elvis singing dixie land.

Thanks for posting that this is Elvis' birthday. It's David Bowie's birthday too, and I've been celebrating by listening to the song that he just released.
There are so many great Elvis songs, but I find myself playing "Suspicious Minds"quite a bit these days. I don't think it's his best song, but I still keep it in my playlists.

So many from which to choose...for sheer goosebump factor, Battle Hymn of the Republic.

I was in Japan when he died. ArmedForces Radio played nonstop Elvis that day. I can still see the Japanese women crying, and feel the force of their emotion.

Best Elvis moment begins at about 1.25 ...

Thanks for that, made my night. I love it when singers you admire show that they put their pants on just like you.

I played his 30 #1's album while shaving tonight. I gotta do that more often. You just can't deny his voice.

Elvis and a DFS, what more could you ask for.

Thanks for your replies all! So many good songs being mentioned. All of them are my favorites:001_smile. When I was auditioning stereo / HT systems, I burnt a set of CD's to evaluate audio quality. For vocals, I burnt a set of slow, medium & fast paced Elvis songs. The first time I heard "Unchained melody" through the decidedly mid-range Wharfedale (British) speakers, I immediately decided that Wharfedale it was for me! Such a vocally demanding song yet Elvis sings it with so much emotion & ease
