I think it was about three weeks ago that I first really thought of shaving as a pleasure. It took two separate attempts at wetshaving to get enough proficiency to overcome all the nervousness (and pain), but it finally clicked a few weeks back. And while it took a bit of time to actually recognize that, within a short period of time it dawned on me that I could actually begin to branch out from my standard tools. More importantly, there was more mental effort in my shaves. Using new razors and creams and brushes, aside from crippling my bank account, made me think more about the variables of the shave; how blades felt on different days, how creams affected my shave, what post-shave stuff to use, etc. etc.
So there's the fun of using all sorts of new stuff (especially the Slant I had been afraid of for ages) and then the *** moments you have, as I did this morning, when you run your hand or alum bar over your face, know you've had a great shave, and wonder "what the hell did I do to make THAT happen....?" It's a great time and kind of scientifically intriguing, but I have yet to come up with ways to truly identify what goes right or wrong with my shave on any given day. You guys?
