The Goodfella Double-Edge Razor in chrome

Hi guys,

I started wet shaving with a DE about 3 weeks ago now and I have to tell you guys I cannot wait come morning time to shave off my stubble. I bought all my gear on Fendrihan and loved the service and items.

During my spending spree I picked up a safety razor: The Goodfella Double-Edge Razor in chrome. I picked it up initially due to its very slick and sexy look. But now I have come to appreciate it for its nice shave and great feel. It’s very small at 8 cm in length but this is one of the things I have come to love about this amazing piece.

Did anyone ells try out this razor? And if so what did you think about it?

Very smart looking razor! I have not heard of them so I can't contribute - but, wanted to say it looks great! What sort of price is on these?

I paid 69CAD For the razor, I should also be notes that I have never cut myself once with it :D not sure if its idiot proof or what ,, maybe I might just try cutting myself to make sure it works properly... :D

I just picked up a new razor to compare it to my goodfellow. Same length and weight The Merkur 33C Classic Double-Edge Razor is going to be a nice match. I’m kind of worried about the price difference and that the Merkur may not stand up to my Goodfellow anticipations. If they don’t you will be seeing my Merkur in the mall soon :D

I have the Satin Black version, and I love it. I like the Goodfella better than my Merkurs...but my face seems to like the gentler razors anyhow. B ut, as always with wetshaving, YMMV.

I've got the Satin Black version that I picked up through the B/S/T subforum. It's a really nice razor that has a great look to it. Unfortunately, I'm not sold on it as a good shaver. The blade exposure isn't even. It takes a bit of messing around with it to get the blade to seat right. Also, the satin finish on the head seems to hinder any kind of smooth gliding motion and creates more resistance. Like all of my "problem" razors, I haven't given up on it, just set it aside to use at a later date to see if the problem is me or the razor.

If I were you, I would be comfortable assuming it will cut me. But as always, YMMV!

The uneven blade exposure is typical of all razors designed with the 2 "pins" that was first seen in the Gillette Old style. Some individual razors using this design seem to have the uneven exposure "feature" more than others, even those of the same model. I'd think this is the main reason Gillette moved to the common bar design first seen in the NEW--consistency.

As far as the satin finish creating resistance--haven't had a problem with the finish like that at all. Guess that's just more YMMV at work!

The design change was primarily strategic - to push out competitors whose blades would not fit the 'new' style razors. It was not at all a design change to stabilize the blade. It didn't work out that well for them though. The blade design was 'ripped off' (claims Gillette) and led to all sorts of trouble for them.

That's right. Most razors that I tried with the 2 pins alignment had that type of problem until I used a NEW. The only exceptions so far are the Hoffritz and I have a Gillette Old type that must be defective because the alignment is right!
