Traditional aftershaves were considered a medicinal product that had curative properties for the body and mind. Marketed as a aftershave, it was also touted as a tonic to relieve tired muscles and a curative to relieve fatigues. People use aftershaves as room deodorants, to disinfect surfaces such as food preparation areas, bathroom toilet seats, tubs, showers, and sinks, any areas where bacteria can be found. Home remedies include using aftershave for minor cuts, scrapes, burns, bee stings, and other minor skin irritations.
I must admit I use aftershave as a tonic. On days with a lot of physical activity I will take another shower in the evening and splash on some aftershave before bed. Seems to help with these old aching muscles of mine. SWMBO likes me to splash on a little Vegetal sometimes after I wash my face in the evening. Besides being refreshing for me, she grew up with a large lilac outside her window as a child and it reminds her of her childhood home. I have been known to splash on some aftershave while hunting in the duck blind. Its a great refresher when I haven't shaved in a couple of days.
Do you have any other uses for aftershave other than closing a few nicks, cuts, and pores?
