What's new

The Copper Hat - I'm a Lumberjack!

Finally made it into downtown today and picked up some local artisan shave soap from "The Copper Hat". It's a husband and wife team - they've just opened up a new storefront...very small, but really good people to deal with from what I can tell. Willing to do some ordering in, etc. In any case, they make their own brushes and soaps. I've seen the brushes mentioned in passing here via a search (although a while back it looks like), but nothing on the soaps.

I picked up this:

Have not shaved with it yet - that's for tomorrow. Did a very quick test lather - feels excellent, seems like there will be very decent cushion and all the rest of it. Can't wait.

Smell? Like cedar...campfire...interesting. They have a few other scents as well. Everything is essential oil based. Will update this post tomorrow once I've actually cut whiskers with this stuff.

Update...shaved with Lumberjack this morning. I'm not going to say "amazing", because I felt that there were a couple of things going on: lather seemed to be not quite as slick as I'm used to (mostly using Proraso and Stirling); and it seemed to want to dissipate a bit on my face after lathering.

That said, I don't think it's the final word on this soap. It's not really a summertime soap though; it's kind of "spicy". Face a little warm after the shave...I think this could be a real "go to" wintertime soap/fragrance. I'm still picking up some campfire-y notes about 90 minutes post shave now. Kind of neat, actually. And my wife likes it quite a bit as well...sort of peeks through the aftershave (a blend of Captain's Choice Lime and Waleda balm).

All in all - this is promising. The maker had a summertime menthol/peppermint scent available as well - and I'm betting I might be feeling differently had I tried that first on a hot summer day.
