What's new

The British really make the best of everything when it comes to shaving, don't they?

There are some good American shaving related products, and there are good things from other countries. But there are just so many fantastic products made in England.

I have heard that English Gillettes are the best Gillettes ever.

Truefitt & Hill, Taylor Of Old Bond Street, and Geo F Trumper make the best soaps and creams that I have ever experienced, and their scents and aftershaves are peerless as well.

There are no better brushes than those made in England.

Today I just tried Harris Marlborough Cologne, which I believe is English. One word: WOW!

How is it that the British are so great at all this stuff.

There's also the Italian products (Cella, Proraso) and the German goods!

Of course there are some fantastic products that are made in all different countries, but I would have to agree with the OP that the Brits really do make the best of the best in terms of the totality of high end wetshaving products available.

It's not really British unless it has Lucas parts in it and/or it leaks oil!

(Actually I have 2 Hinkley Triumphs and a 2003 Jaguar that are pretty good so I'm just kidding. I'm quite an Anglophile.)

In short, yea.

But man alive do you have to pay for the good stuff.

If you can afford it, you really will appreciate the quality.

Best,

Hard to argue with our OP. Whilst there are plenty of good (or even great) products around, the English soaps, creams and scents perform well and have a certain "luxury" attached.

I prefer American razors and German soaps, but I gotta give it to the Brits - they've got a LOT of great stuff

There are great shaving products made the world over, but the British do seem to have more of them than anyone else. MMMM.....TOBS Shaving Shop line:001_smile

You can also get some great stuff that is cheap as chips over here as well.

Palmolive, boots and Ingram spring to mind. Just as good as that posh stuff at a fraction of the price.

Mind you there is nothing like walking into somewhere like Taylors of Old Bond street. Its like being a kid in a sweet shop :001_tongu

There's no one to touch England in the shaving cream department esp. TOBS and DR Harris

Germany(Shavemac) could give them a contest in the brush stakes.

Personally there's no soap to touch Tabac (Germany) :001_smile

...and a US Gillette Super Speed(Red Tip or Reg. Flare) with blades from Russia or Turkey !

Sounds like a good theory, but if I parse my own routine, I get a different picture. Of course my routine varies, but the following is one of my standards:

Body soap: Marseille lavender soap, France

Face wash: Nancy Boy, USA

Shampoo/Conditioner: Nioxin, USA

Shaving Cream: Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort, Canada (although rumored now to be made in USA; I'll know when I get the newest batch I just ordered)

Brush: Plisson, France; also Simpson, which is English, but no longer made - in my opinion, the Vulfix-Simpsons aren't in the same league.

Razor: Merkur, Germany

Blade: Gillette Super Silver Platinum, Russia

Aftershave: Santa Maria Novella, Italy
