"That" shave

Do you know "that" shave?

That one where everything comes together, almost as if by design -- where the whiskers practically cut themselves.

I had one of those today. The tools I used were all what I consider to be high performers, but it wasn’t really about the tools. It was about nailing down a PERFECT shave nearly without effort, with no intention whatsoever of chasing one, or really any particular expectations going into it.

Have any of you gents had one of those shaves lately? Thoughts on what made it great?

Definitely not perfect, but today I was so keen on getting in to some new AS's that I didn't think much during the shave and came out with best shave yet.
As a noob this is almost a daily thing as lots to work on.
Just put a derby in the Tech and not even a nice lather (it was thin) and got killer close under the nose for the first time and 70% BBS all round.

Good prep usually leads to a great shave. The longer you steam up the beard in the shower and rub Palmolive soap to your face the better, and then at the sink hit it again with hot cloths before applying a good preshave. Nice sharp blade in a good razor and Ta-Dah! BSS!

I had one of those last weekend, and I know exactly what made the difference. It was my first use of Martin de Candre soap - it's so good it took things up another notch. (And sorry if I'm raving about this stuff, but for me it really is a step above DR Harris, Tabac, Cella, etc.)
