That Last Quarter Turn

What does the last quarter turn on Gillette adjustable a do to the blade geometry? I know it locks everything in place, but what else does it do?

I can't say that I have seen any difference in the geometry with the last quarter turn. As far as I can tell, all that it does is tighten everything down.

From what I've read in the original instructions, it's supposed to be a half turn.

I've never had a Gillette adjustable that did a half turn in practice. It's always been a quarter turn or less to tighten it down. I don't know that it does anything to the blade geometry either, other than maybe just clamping the blade in the position that it's supposed to be in for the given setting on the dial.

It depends on what setting you have it on. Also on how much crud is in the works.

If you have a clean adjustable without a bunch of old junk in the handle, the final quarter/half turn is smooth like butter.

And it doesn't do anything but lock down the blade so it doesn't move during the shave.

So got a e4 fat boy it is super clean and in great shape any one have a scan of the factory instructions. I want to make sure that I am using it right. Such as I am guessing that you should not adjust with it cranked down to the last 1/4 turn I would guess that adjusting should be done with a little slack. Also how much oil and what type where? I used a little mineral oil thinned down with a little alcohol down the stem from both sides after some major cleaning with hot soapy water running the action open and closed blowing thru it and all matter of careful cleaning.
The action is like butter now it was not rough before but now it just glides.

Oil is not really needed but can help sometimes to dissolve some minor dirt on the contacting surfaces where one has no access to.

Yo can turn the selector in the 9 to 1 direction when the blade is not tightened town, but for turning the adjuster ring in the opposite direction (1-9) you should open the doors at least a bit. I open the doors completely for adjusting in both directions, just to not have to think...
