Thrift Store Find - Gillette Executive 1960 F2

Hey everyone

I've been meaning to get around to posting this and have only now had the opportunity to do so.

Here is a recent thrift store find... The Gillette Executive F2 1960 with its original box and packaging.. minus the blue blade dispenser and operating manual.

Upon initial inspection it looks as if it was not used that much.. a couple small smudges on the doors but overall pretty much almost mint condition.

No damage to end caps or centre bar.

All clicks audible from 1 - 9 and even the last quarter turn to lock into place.

Overall the mechanism feels great but could benefit with a drop of mineral oil added to it.

The only problem I have found with this razor is that once the quarter turn is locked the doors don't exactly turn all the way in.. is this normal for a tto?

I am still in disbelief that the previous owner would part ways with this and just donate it.. rather than sell on the bay or elsewhere online.. unbelievable..

What a superb find! My thrift stores seem to have either nothing or just your 70s Tech.

As to your question: no the doors should be closing all the way. Especially after the quarter turn at the end.

Enjoy this beauty!

I am not surprised, as people can be very generous. That is how thrift stores work, that is how PIFs work, and that is how the yearly B&B charity auction works. My only surprise is that the store did not list the item online. Here in the UK, I have never found a razor, brush, or soap in a charity shop in several years of searching, not a single one. It is now common for UK charity shops to have their own Ebay stores and many items seen in their brick and mortar stores are marked as currently being listed online. Nice find 👍

In Australia I believe there is a rule with several of the larger charity shop groups to not sell razors for hygiene reasons. Having said that, I remember one of them selling a cased Fatboy on their online shop, and I bet they were quite surprised what it went for. Probably kicking themselves for all the old ones they threw out over the years.

Will do thanks mate.. I had a feeling that was the case.. ah well I suppose I can live with it.. don't think I'll be tinkering around trying to fix it..

Makes sense as I've only ever come across vintage Gillette's at local antique stores..

I forgot to mention.. if anyone has a matching period correct blue blade dispenser up for sale I will gladly pay good $ for it.. as I have searched the bay for others but have only come across some NOS in original packaging.. I couldn't come to terms in purchasing new and opening just to have on display as I intend on using this razor.. cheers fellas..

I have never seen a single razor on any trip to a charity thrift store (Goodwill…).

Last time I went (last weekend), I found another Wusthof in-drawer knife block.

I have been going to these stores for years. I agree that there has to be a rule against them selling razors in their stores.

I am up early, to go to the flea market… where I actually find razors.

Congratulations on your find. You may need to get it adjusted by a professional.

This particular store here in Australia had a behind the counter section where they had (what they considered) the most valuable items sitting on a stack of shelves.. the razor was tucked behind a couple of cheap ceramic vases.. the only reason it stood out to me was the shiny gold and black packaging.. my jaw dropped when I saw it.. still can't believe it..

It could be the original owner passed away and this was donated to the shop. I was a construction and demolition rep for a large waste company and you would be amazed at what people donate/throw away. It’s not uncommon for what appears to be a normal home take multiple 40 yard roll off containers. I wonder how many unused razors have been thrown out as people think there was no value.
