That crud just doesn't come off

in that case you probably don't have anything to worry about. You only need to worry if there is play in the tto knob when the doors are fully closed.
 
I think you would have no trouble scoring a minty one for how much it would cost to replate. The floppy doors aren't a problem. I think its actually very common on old gillettes, as I have very few with doors that work 100% as they should. But as a shaver, it is in perfectly good shape :thumbup1:
