Another newbie here.
First, a confession: I dont even know what brought me to this site in the first place.
Irritation, bumps, and ingrown hairs prompted me to give up electric razors a couple of decades ago. While using canned goo and scraping my face with expensive multi-blade razors was somewhat better, it still wasnt the solution!
So a couple of months ago I came upon this wonderful web community.
I started slowly, with a tube of C.O. Bigelow (Proraso) shaving cream purchased from the local Bath & Body Works store, a Van der Hagen boar brush, and a bag of Bic Sensitive shavers.
After a couple of weeks, I found a good deal on a nearly new Y4 Gillette Tech razor and spent some money with a couple of the vendors I found on the forums. I bought a blade sample pack, a couple different soaps, and an Omega 63167 pure badger brush.
Over the successive weeks, I shaved with the Tech razor, continued to read, and spent a little more money with vendors and on eBay. (Honestly, Ive only had one unsatisfying purchase a RoyalShave First Rate Travel Brush, which to my mind isnt!)
So that all led to this morning.
First, a few drops of hot tap water on top of the Irisch Moos Ive milled into a plastic container. More hot tap water into my cream colored, medium sized Becker ceramic scuttle, in which I soaked my Simpson Case best badger brush while taking a hot shower.
After the shower, I emptied and refilled the scuttle gently shook out my brush and loaded the brush with soap before using the scuttle to create a goodly amount of wonderful lather.
What followed four cycles of wetting and lathering my face, alternating WTG and XTG passes using a Sputnik blade and a 4 setting on a my E1 Gillette Fatboy. (Im afraid I dont have much real estate on my bathroom counter, so it was difficult to capture a good image of the items I used this morning.)
Fifteen minutes later a final cool rinse, followed by a splash of store brand Witch Hazel and a couple dobs of Obsession for Men ASB.
Hands down, the best shave of my life. A true BBS shave!
However, I see two drawbacks to this change in my lifestyle: I need to get up earlier in the morning in order to both shave and make it to work on time, and I fear Im coming down with a case of RAD and its associated disorders.
Again, thanks to the members of this community for their enlightening and often entertaining posts.
