According to a local salesman Thäter makes the finest brushes. I onw one silvertip brush by this manufacturer and I'm amased how good this brush is. Do you know that brand? Any thoughts?

It is indeed the finest brush made, in my opinion.
Hmm that's a strong statement. I have nothing against Thater and have never used any of their products but stating it as the best requires some elaboration. Especially from fans.

You are right to be sceptical. I don't know if Thäter are indeed the best but they're really damned fine brushes.
There is always some personal preference in what makes a brush great or "the best".
For me the SOC 2-band is my favourite brush, but it is very closely followed by my Thäter.
The Thäter has a nice backbone and the softest tips (which I like), and by some it is described as lathering with a cloud, a description which sums it up quite nicely in my opinion.

Very nice brush!
I only own four brushes. Thater is #1 for me (bloom, lather and luxury).

+1 My 3 top badger brushes for face lathing are 1) Semogue SOC 2 band 2) Thater 4292/6,2 band,fan 3) Shavemac 167 2 band,d01,fan
Figuring out the "best" brush is the same as asking people for their favorite color. Not one color will win out over others, most colors will be picked, and you might get some favorites. Sure few people might pick brown or grey, but for the most part, blue, green, and red (Rooney, Shavemac, Simpsons, Thater, Semogue) might be at the top of people's lists.
Thater brushes are some of the finest brushes made. Rooney brushes also belong in that category.
