Tea Newb

Hey guys, this is my first post in "The Cafe" and was wondering about getting into tea. I have started eating better and trying to lose some weight in anticipation of getting into the CHP. With that though, comes having to drink better also. Since soda will no longer be consumed and beer will be limited to one or two on the weekends, I need something else other than water and coffee to drink. I would like some examples of highly caffeinated, decaf, and ice-able teas. Also what kind of hardware am I looking at having to acquire, (more AD's)?:001_rolle

I don't drink tea to lose weight, but if I drank as much coffee as I do tea (I'm a Winston Wolfe guy- lots and sugar, lots of cream) I'd weigh as much as a minor planet.

My concern about your desire to drink a highly caffeinated tea is they tend to be black and hence bitter. This results in sugar and cream and high calories. Or low fat sweeteners, which, to my palate, are analogous to drinking tea with Exxon super unleaded.

Try a good quality green such as Dragonwell. I love the taste, nice buzz, and would ice up great. Never bitter

I find that most quality black teas can be drunk without much sugar if any. Darjeelings moreso than Assams. I never sugar my oolongs, either, and some of them contain a fair bit of caffeine as well. The key is to not let it oversteep. If you do the tannins come out and it gets unacceptably bitter for my taste.

Good info guys I apprecieate it! I hate my tea sweet so your suggestions are right up my alley. I love a strong, unsweetened tea. One thing though, I'm not drinking tea to lose weight, I am drinking it in place of other beverages which would be detrimental in my aspirations to lose weight ie: beer, soda, ect.
