Tabac question

Today found a full bottle of Tabac Original AS lotion, and 3/4 bottle of the "soft" after shave lotion...there was also a big spray bottle of cologne but it was almost empty so I left it...besides, the scent did not impress the wife. But the other two were under $2 each so curiosity got the better of me (it always does).

So now I'm sitting at home and occasionally sniffing my forearm after 15 minutes of application, a smear from each bottle on each arm.

Question: When does it start to smell like tobacco? That's what I've heard this stuff described as, here but mostly elsewhere. I love the smell of pipe tobacco and some cigars, but I'm not detecting anything close to it in Tabac. Nor did I note any with the spray I pinched from the cologne bottle earlier today...I kept sniffing that, too, but came up zip for tobacco.

It's not bad at all, interesting and somewhat subtle, but not something I'd seek out. Have I misunderstood this stuff, and so have false expectations of it?

It doesn't smell of Tobacco. The scent (and name) derives from the tobacco plant, which smells different than the dried and processed tobacco it becomes for pipes etc. The scent is warm and floral, almost incense-like.

I don't know what the 'soft' bottle is, but there's only one Tabac Original AS. Perhaps you're referring to the balm?

They make a soft and mild aftershave, the soft has 8% alcohol by volume, the mild 50%, the original is 68%.

Cheers,
David

Now that I have a freshly shaved face coated with the Soft version, you've nailed it pretty much. Don't know that I'd have said floral, since to me that means "sweet" (this isn't) but it's definitely warm and definitely reminiscent of incense.

But behind that...hand cupped to my face, breathing deep...there's some scent that deeper and darker (don't know how else to put it)...not bad at all, and somehow familiar, but no idea what it could be.

That "deeper and darker" scent you are smelling is that 1977 disco edition playboy you took a peek at in grade-school. At least, that's what Tabac smells like to me. The wife dislikes it, I love it. Long live Tabac!

I guess I'm lucky. My wife is largely indifferent to everything I wear...she'll say some are better than others, but never rules out anything. Well, except one: Lilac Vegetal was an instant veto. No problem: I agree with a reviewer who said it's like corned beef and cabbage boiled in urine. :thumbdown

Now I'm gonna go google Tabac and find out what the fragrance breakdown is supposed to be.

Hmmmm, corned beef and cabbage boiled in urine.... I'm going to have to skip that one!

My wife seems impervious to any 'old man' type smells... maybe the 'veg' will get a reaction!

I'd be curious to know if she does. I should edit the description above: corn beef and cabbage boiled in cat urine. Or a catbox in need of cleaning, and on fire.

What a revolting development this is!
