Tabac and soft water

I'm new to the forum. I've lurked for months and finally bit the bullet and bought some new shave soaps based on the reviews I've read here. I've always shaved with williams or the other green boxed one from Walmart. I live in an area with limited shopping. I have thick growth and shave 2 to 3 times a week. I use disposable quatro bladed razors. ( I know!)

As a plumber, I value soft water and really enjoy a soft water shower and plenty of lather. I hate shaving in hotels with chlorinated hard water when we travel.

So.........I bought Tabac and Col. Conks Almond soap. I love almond scent.

Col. Conks provided a nice lather, awesome scent and was SLIPPERY. Very nice.

Tabac.........The best in my opinion. I'm going to have a hard time spending money trying anything else. I'm hooked. It's like going to my favorite restaurant and all I order is the prime rib. I'm afraid to experiment. Why ruin a good thing, right?

Thank all of you for your comments. It made the choice simple for me.

Now, here's my question, does anyone else notice a better shave and better lather due to soft water or does water hardness not affect your results?

Welcome to B&B.
Tabac is great stuff no doubt. I live in an area of the US that our water here mainly comes from glacier melt and rain and believe me almost everything lathers like crazy here, including shower bar soap.

I have heard from others in hard water areas that they do have trouble lathering certain soaps due to the water hardness.

If you like tabac you have to try Prairie Creations Soap... Some mighty good stuff.

Get that AD ramped up and find some soaps you also want to try, then you just might
start shaving every day :thumbup1:

Water hardness makes a big difference in how soaps lather and how a shave feels. I live in an area with very hard water, so I have a water conditioning system. Unfortunately, the replaceable tanks sometime arrive just a little too late and I run out of soft water for a few days.

In my experience soaps are much easier to lather with soft water, but I can always get a good lather, even with hard water, by making adjustments to the soap/water ratio depending on the circumstances. Generally that means more work with more water to get a good lather.

With respect to the shave, soft water makes the lather feel slicker. Remember that "I can't seem to get the soap off me" feeling when you shower with really soft water? Well, the slick feeling extends to shaving, too. That does not necessarily mean a closer shave, however. It just feels different.

YMMV, however.

I have tried Tabac in hard and soft water and it lathers nicely in both. Some soaps, such as Mitchell's Wool Fat, are very different and are greatly affected my water hardness.

We live on lake lanier just outside of Atlanta. The water here is more soft than hard, (comes from the lake but still processed). My wife likes soft water and got a softener. Everything lathers way better and I love that but don't think I'll ever get used to the feeling of still being slick soapy stepping out of the shower even tho I know I'm not.

Tabac is real nice stuff, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try some of the Prairie Creations or Cella. Prime rib is good, but try the Wiener Schnitzel and the Veal Piccata from the kitchen as well.:thumbup1:

Water here is soft and everything lathers well.
