Will mixing water with Barbasol shaving foam work?

Hello there. I'm here just to ask wondering if mixing water with Barbasol foam into a (regular) bowl will help? It's not that I'm wondering if adding water will make Barbasol foam lather more, but rather I'm wondering if adding water will make Barbasol foam more slicker and slippery.

And while I still prefer shaving soaps and will always use shaving soaps as my daily shaves, I still have some Barbasol in my bathroom cabinet, and I would sometimes use them if I feel like I'm in a mood to use it (though again, I mostly use shaving soaps and I really like it better). Will adding water help my Barbasol foam more slicker, or nah?

The answer to your question is yes. I am not a regular canned foam user, but @Jay21 can probably enlighten you a lot more on this topic.

Yes. Barbasol is quite dry straight out of the can. Adding water makes it much better. I squirt it into a bowl. Add water. Stir with brush. Apply to face with brush. Works great!

If you don't want to go through that process, Gillette Foamy is pretty good straight out of the can. The moisture from wetting your face is enough.

Absolutely. I'm using Gillette lime foam for several days and I get the same results as with a soap or cream. The secret is adding water, that's it.

Wash your face, keep it wet, as well as hands. Take a can, shake it for several seconds. Apply it, massaging the face. Remember, always rewet your fingers/ palms so your lather is like yogurt.

If you won't add enough water, the foam will be like plastic... dry and unpleasant experience.

Good luck:osage:

I have not used it in years and years, but I always thought Gillette Foamy was a decent lather product. At this point, with the lather products in my den, I figure why bother. But it was not bad at all. And I have lizard skin, nothing bothers it, so I had no issues with canned foam before.

Yes, just soak the brush and go for it.. I do it for all canned foams, as they all come out a bit dry. Always iare much slicker mixed with a little water

I splash a bunch of hot water on my face and apply a little puff of it on top of my dripping wet skin. That works pretty well.

But short answer is yes.

Adding water to batbasol is easy and mixes well and improves performance and can be done however you want.

Barbasol is an extremely concentrated shaving foam. I never use it in a bowl (you can if you want). I take a golfball blob of it and at it to my soaking wet face and keep running a tiny stream of water over the blob while applying it which makes a copious amount of creamy lather in no time.

Barbasol loves water.

FYI my local dollar tree had 3 different aftershaves. The 3rd one was new to me. $1.25 each and I thought of you. Smelled pretty darn too. Anyway, Barbasol whipped up nicely in a bowl with a few drops of water.

Wow, thank you so much for helping me understand! It means a lot to me. I am looking forward to try it out with several of my Barbasols that had I left in my bathroom cabinet.

Also, do you think this will work in shaving gels too (specifically, the shaving gel products that lathers by hands, such as NIVEA, Edge, Gillette, etc.), or will it not work? Will it end up clogging my synthetic shaving brush?

Personally, I avoid gels like Edge for the main reason that they can clog your plumbing up. Plus I just don't like the feel. But you can always try!
I agree that gels aren’t as good for a variety of reasons. I never got them to work very well for me. Foams work so much better for me, even better than soaps.

I never had any problems with Edge clogging up my plumbing. Traditional brushed on soaps and creams on the other hand have given me a few issues. But I live in a hard water area so that’s why

Like everyone else, yes some added water works great. In my case, I just wet my synthetic brush fully and then shake out the excess. Then I apply generously from the can to the brush. Most of the time I will lather my face directly afterwards, but I have tried using a bowl too. It works well for me either way.

I have to tell you guys something. Recently I bought a tub of soap from a very popular seller. I won't say who. Yesterday I shaved with it and got 2 tiny cuts after pass #1 that bled after I was done. When using a Tech and Feather that has never happened before with Bigelow foam. Today I shaved with it again and after the 2nd pass my face felt like it was sunburned. I lathered up with Bigelow for a very light pass barely contacting my face and the burn went away. For what it's worth.

Whatever works for you is best for you. I've always wanted to try Bigelow foam - maybe I'll pick some up. This thread has got me curious.

Soap causes pretty intense aftershave sting for me. I really want to use soaps to be more traditional and environmental, but it’s not meant to be. Canned foam leads to no problems.
