T&H Ultimate Comfort

I really seem to like this cream. Can anyone recommend something similar that works just as well, but has a broader range of fragrances?

Easy, if you like T&H UC just look through the rest of T&H's assortment, they do have some of the best scented creams.

The 3T's (Truefitt & Hill, Taylor of Old Bond St., and Geo. F. Trumper) all have a wide assortment of scents with very similar performance. Just find the scent that you like and you can't go wrong with any of them.

HapyPils, this is a video review I did of Truefitt's Trafalgar Shave Cream. It's really very good.

+1 to everything above

T&H sampler pack of creams is awesome, highly recommend it.
GFT creams and TOBS creams are similar in their quality and offer a broad range of scents as well.

OP,
The T&H UC is the cream I used the most, even before I seriously started wet shaving about a year ago. Used it exclusively for about two years before that. If you're looking for something similar in a cream, in terms of performance, your best bet is the other T&H creams. That will be the closest. I did not find the TOBS equal in quality, but others have. Give them a try. If money is no object, the Penhaligons Blenheim Bouquet cream is fantastic. A classic men's fragrance with performance equal to the T&H. Not better, but as good. You're paying for the brand and scent.

Another favorite of mine are the proraso creams especially the red, but try the blue also. They're much less than the British soaps and I don't think the performance is on a par, but I actually prefer the scents to the T&H scents. You may want to try those as well for a change of pace and a cheaper but still excellent alternative.

enjoy.

It's funny because I sent the folks at Truefitt and Hill this video, and they very tounge in cheek took issue with me taking off 2 points for the container and the scent quickly fading. When I brought up that TOB's creams cost half as much and pretty much came in the same vessel, the gentleman countered by saying that while Taylor's are good, they are water based creams and therefore their lather doesn't stand up the same way that T&H's does. Not sure if that's true, but it's something that I had never thought of before, and didn't know.

The scent not lasting in a soap is considered by many to be a virtue since it frees one up to choose a different AS or cologne. My take on it is that every time I have used a soap that had a persistent scent after the shave it would cause an allergic skin reaction. My suspicion is that it's the EOs causing the reaction and also what provides the aromatic longevity. As a result, I have to stay away from all the Mama Bear and RR soaps in spite of them being great products with fantastic scents.

i agree that TOBS creams don't have the same quality of lather as T&H (neither does GFT but not as noticeable) IMO. But that said, the quality is not that far off to me.

And I would put Castle Forbes just above T&H. Never used pen's creams however.

I hear that, but sometimes I like to layer scents and wish that my soaps and creams would last a tad bit longer than they do. On the other hand, I do understand that others don't like. And the T&H rep made the same point to me.

In my opinion Simpsons Luxury is very close in performance to the T&H Ultimate Comfort. I have the unscented version and love it.

I agree that the performance is very similar - both very good. But that doesn't help much in the scent department.

I don't think their other creams - although very good - have the same face feel as Ultimate Comfort. I find it almost silky under the brush - extremely pleasant.

My first two choices - only slightly better that these two IMHO - would be AK 1869 in the tub and Castle Forbes Lavender. But that still doesn't help much in the scent department.

You may want to try a sample pack from Queen Charlotte Soaps - very nice creams.

Toodle on down to Pasteur's and pick you up some Pen's B&B. I bought a tube for my brother and sampled a few shaves worth before handing it over(purely as a safety measure) and had to go back and get my own tube.

I generally get excellent results from T&H, but the UC just doesn't work for me. I used one of their sample packs, and after the first shave I was a little disappointed, but figured I may have rushed or not paid enough attention to technique or got a bad blade. This morning, I finished the sample with a fresh blade - it made excellent lather, but didn't give me the same close shave I've come to expect for T&H products. I had high expectations based on general reviews, but very underwhelmed. YMMV, I guess...

+1 I love this cream. It doesn't help you with scent. I don't find their scented creams are the equal of Ultimate Comfort. They're nice creams, but I find UC a step above.
