Suggestions on a Shave gel/creme

Hey guys,

Just want your experienced views on these two products I've got on my mind.

Here's some background: I'm due to run out of my KoS MagnaGlide shave gel soon. I use my hands to lather and I shave with a Futur and Feather blades. I have very thick hair and need something that's will give me a close shave and not just pamper the skin.

Product 1:
Baxter of California Super Close Shave Formula
- Sounds like it's what I need but just how close is it? Reviews on it are not enough to be able to compare it to the other product.

Product 2:
Proraso Cutting Edge Shaving Gel Tube
- This is a brand very popular around the experienced wet shavers so I'm very tempted to try its hand application product (this shaving gel) in hope to give me a close enough shave.

Any suggestions would be welcome guys!

Thanks

You are in luck, I tried both creams... The gels should be similar

Baxter, the product is great but I had a minor allergic reaction to it. I had to discard it.

Proraso, still in my rotation, that's one fine product. I would grab that one.

hiya, any reason not to use a brush & cream/soap?

I shave in the shower, using a brush is too timeconsuming for me, I like to keep my shaves close, flawless and fast. :) So far this technique has been giving me great results.

Luc, which one of the two gave you a closer shave? You're right, I am in luck, didn't think there'd be someone who has tried both.:001_rolle

If I have to pick one, my vote goes to Proraso!

I'm a fan of the Baxter. I always get a super close shave (hence the name). I can be extremely rough with my blade when using this cream without getting cut. When ur done with the Proraso you should def try the Baxter.

By the looks of it both were equally good but I preferred Proraso because it doesn't have any menthol. I feel like it counters the effect of the hot water by giving me this cooling sensation and numbing my skin.

Plus looking on the bright side, if I bough that 300 ml bottle of Baxter I'd be using it forever. But with this 150ml Proraso gel tube I'd be trying Baxter sooner.

By the way, jdboucher have you used both products? After all Proraso may be just as forgiving. :001_smile

Are you implying that 'King of Shaves' gel gives a close shave and traditional soaps and creams just 'pamper the skin' (ie don't give a close shave?

I'm not implying anything about my King of Shaves gel. I've used a few of their gels and think they do a good job but probably only because the products I used before them were Gillette Foam and Gel. I want to see what else is out there and mentioned that what I'm really going for is the close shave.
