Suggestions For First Open Comb Razor

What would you suggest for my first open comb razor? Something not too aggressive. I was looking at the Merkur 15C or the Merkur 1904 open comb but am open to other suggestions. I'd like to keep the cost under $40.

I tried a "New" short comb the other day for the fist time, even though I have them in my collection for the longest , and compared to a Fatip or other combs I have tried, I was Really impressed with the "New" Short it was just as smooth as the $150.00 Joris , and at times you can get a user grad Razor with a New Head for About $15-20 .

Also the "New" head is Probably the best Solid Razor Head ever Made By Gillette and Many Modern Razors.

I would go with the New first if I was you. If you like EJ89 Head you will like the "New" it's just as smooth and A tad more efficient.

If you want mild, go for the Merkur 15C. If you are a more experienced wet shaver, I'd recommend a Gillette Long-Comb or Short-Comb New.

Either a Gillette New, Fatip Grande or the Pearl SSH02S:

I recently acquired a Merkur 1904 OC. Shaved with it for the past couple of weeks. Could not be happier.

Do it. You know you want to.

If you go with a New, I would go short comb. I just got the New long comb and while I like it, it is significantly more aggressive than my Merkur 180 (25c). I hear the short comb is milder, although I haven't shaved with it. With the New LC, the first thing you feel on your face is the blade. It takes some getting used to.

The Merkur 180, lots of people call it the long pole....it goes by a few names. Anyhow, it is really mild but a really good shaver. I shaved with it for 2 years straight and I still get a better shave with it than anything else. Sometimes I wonder why I am looking for something to replace it. It does take me 3 full passes plus a ton of cleanup to get the kind of shave I want with it...so I want something faster.

Anyhow, it's a damn good open comb razor.
