Styptic mod, helpful for dopp kit

Gents,

I was tinkering and came up with an easy mod to a styptic stick, shown the the picture below. 3/8" heat shrink keeps a wet stick a little neater and helps hold the thing together to reduce the chance of breaking. You can also use a smaller styptic for a dopp kit. You can cut away the heat shrink to expose more of the stick. I like it, and hope it's useful to others.

...I bought a styptic pencil at walgreens because it came in a plastic tube with a red cap. The styptics sold at walmart fit in it perfectly.

I switched to the Proraso Styptic gel.

The stuff is like a weak superglue with alum blended in... works like a champ, and being a gel in a squeeze tube, it travels VERY well.

I have both and really like this stuff. More hygienic to share (if you don't apply the tip to the wound). I have also used it on cuts not on the face which has been helpful, never thought of using a styptic pencil for something like that before.

Ya... I had a wart or callous or some kind of "thing" on my finger. I assumed that it was the result of a piece of wire or something embedded in the skin, as I get that from time to time stripping coax.
So rather than keeping it trimmed flush, I let it grow for a month or so, then started digging around the edges to loosen it.
Worked it for an afternoon, got home and went after it with the nail clippers.
Got a nice divot taken out, used Proraso to seal it up.

It's taken 3 months but it's starting to grow back... guess I'll have to see a doc and have it frozen out.

I use a liquid styptic. All you need is a very small drop and it works instantly. It comes in a really small bottle, so it fits a dopp kit great. I get it at the barber shop. Its only a few dollars, and lasts well over a year or even more depending on use.

I'll have to check out the liquids and gel styptics. I use an alum block and only pull out the styptic if there is a bleeder or weeper.

I haven't picked up the Walgreen's styptic sold with a container, but that sounds like another good idea. I find my mod easy to grab in the bathroom, cleaner than the bare stick, and I can pack a smaller stick in a dopp kit when space is a premium.

Stay thirsty, my friends.

i use the Styptic Matches. come in a match book, tear one off, use then throw it away. it's small, compact and doesn't need a special container.

they work like a charm.

Yep. These are great. I use the liquid at home, but keep a book of the styptic matches in my dopp kit.
