Incoming from the Bay!

Heljestrand Mk 31. Pretty bad rust, hope it didn't eat through the thinner parts of the blade. But for 20$ I couldn't pass it up! Don't feel bad if you missed this one guys, it got listed and a second later it got bought... By me.

Kropp 6/8. This one the guy listed as a KNopp.

:pipe:Hmmmyesss, I think I'd rather enjoy a nice KNopp.

Koch & Schafer Kama. Looked like a nice blade, I never had one of these so I jumped on the comparably low price tag. This style, shoulder less with square tip is my personal fav. We'll see how she does.

The mk31 is toast IMO but photos can be deceiving. I am particularly fond of Kropp razors, never had a bad experience with any. Square point should also be a good shaver.

Yeah I was hoping it wouldn't be as bad as it looked on the sellers photos, but I have it sitting in CLR right now to soften it up some rather than using force and sandpaper. It is my go to routine, soak and then use one of those cheap rust erasers. I never thought they would work but no joke I think they work better sometimes than anything else because it will pull the rust up without leaving deep scratches. If it doesn't get junked I'll have it up on the workbench thread.

Congrats on the KAMA. They made fine razors.

Thanks! Yeah I really just liked what I saw, had a good vibe so I went for it. But otherwise never really heard much on them. Sometimes it's the unexpected ones that you end up getting along with the best. Like my imperial, still beats out most of my top dollar shavers.

You still have a kama?

This GB tapers from a full 1-5/16 at it's widest down to 1-3/16. Easily the biggest I have by a bunch of 16ths. I love all of the original grind marks and wouldn't want it any other way. The OG scales are even still good.

E-Bay find - one of those ones you foolishly bid on then hope and pray that someone outbids you but doesn't - and you end up with a razor you didn't want! Fortunately it wasn't very expensive.

Description - Thomas Turner, Cutler to His Majesty. Lovely cream scales (ivory? Cellulose? bone?) with a government arrow engraved on it - there government issue, most likely HM Armed forces.
Age - no idea, but because it's "His" majesty, that would make it from 1903 (start of Edward VII's reign) through to 1952 (death of George VI).
Condition - slight hone wear! Couldn't get a pic of the blade profile but needless to say there is only a spine on one side. On the other side it's completely worn off with the toe of the blade on that side long gone also.

My KAMA was the first razor that cost more than $10. It was NOS and I thought $50 was outrageous. My wife got tired of my bargaining and told me to just buy it. Smart lady... Great razor...

Ooohh my!
Now that is some razor porn right there!
Also seems like you got urself one of the good ones... I mean the wife of course.

BTW correction on the Kropp, this baby is a monster! Coming in at just about 7/8! Have a 5/8 next to it for reference and it looks almost comically large. The kama is big boy too, a spot over 6/8. Guys, I'm like really excited right now.

Ask me about shaving naked!
Unknown maker, likely 1820-ish Sheffield, only marked ‘Superior Temper’. The steel is so hard and fine grained that it took over 2 hours with a slurried Shapton Glass 500 HR to recut the paste-rounded bevels. But the edge was straight and even, even at 500 grit - more than you can say for many modern razors. This old cast steel rocks. The bevel measured 16.6 degrees, so it got 2 layers of Kapton giving it about 17.5 degrees and the bevel width is about like original. Progression was 500, 1k,2k, 4k Shapton Glass HR, 6k Shapton Glass HC, then a rosy hard kiita with diamond plate slurry, followed by tomo slurry, the finally about 15 clear water strokes.

The edge was smooth but needed constant attention, that clear water finish may have reduced the ‘mildness’ a bit, so I’m going to refinish it with slurry before the next shave with it.

Now that I know that the steel is superb, a little resto is in order.

My Father's Day eBay special arrived as shown (rust on blunt blade)
TI fathersday2020.jpg

I like TI & have one already so it was a compulsion at $70 AU.
I spent maybe two hours with the sand paper and stones to get this
TI_FathersdayPresi2020.jpg

I don't get why it was sold, so little effort & such a return. Good news for me :)

Hi
Found these during a garage clearance. Any ideas of age?
I intend to get them restored and use them, is that possible/likely?
Can post more photos if it’s helpful.
Thanks

The vintage 6/8 three pin Wacker arrived today, and it is extremely clean...MINTY in fact with no sign of previous use. If you look at the scales, it looks like a crack could be there near the pin, but it is just the incredible natural grain!

I have some experience with Wacker razors, and this one has the best fit and finish of any that I have held and used!

Does anyone know about when this was made?

Thanks!
