Storing DE Blades

I read someone in another thread say storing your razor blades in the bathroom is a bad idea. I have never heard this piece of advice before. I always figured....where the hell else would I store my blades? So, how many of you store them someplace other than the bathroom? Where is it you store them?

In the bathroom, in a small pastic storage unit with drawers. $5 at Wal-Mart. Where the heck else would you want them, in the kitchen?

My bathroom is rather large and has a separate room with a door for the shower and toilet so it is not very humid where I shave. In fact I do not get any humidity issues with my carbon straight razors so I would be surprised to have any issue with stainless steel safety razor blades.

That said. I keep a stash of individual blades in a drawer and all of my cartons of blades in my office, just because I don't have room in the bathroom for thousands of razor blades

someone who suggested not to keep them in the bathroom was most likely concerned about humidity, from the shower no doubt. I wouldn't worry about it. If i had a bathroom that was constantly humid I'd be worried about more than my blades.

I don't shave in the bathroom with the shower but only because the half bath has better lighting and it's in my bedroom .

Half my blades are in the medicine cabinet the others in my storage cabinet

I don't store my medication or stash of blades in my bathroom. I am kind of anal-retentive when it comes to avoiding moisture. Heck, I am kind of anal-retentive about many things!

My bathroom layout is similar to turtle's. I just keep them in the secondary closet by the bathroom sink.

It also helps being in dry, sun baked Arizona. I could probably keep my blades in the sink with the faucet running and not have to worry about them getting wet.

Well, my bathroom isn't as huge sounding as Turtle's and John's, but it's big enough that the mirror rarely even fogs. It is about 3 times the size of the bathroom I left at my condo in Tulsa. Hell, my closet now is bigger than my old bathroom.

Even back in Tulsa where a warm cup of tea fogged my bathroom, I never had any problems with my blades in the bathroom. I don't have thousands of blades.....yet, but I do have 300 on the way, so it's a start. I'm fairly anal retentive too, so I'm sure I'll come up with something for them. Maybe a nice plastic case under the sink. Since we have a double vanity I have plenty of room under my side. The wife's side is a different story. That thing is packed tighter than the stones in an Inca wall......

I have no idea what is best or what is worst. My blade stash is in a drawer with my socks. I keep one pack of whatever I'm using in the medicine cabinet at the sink. When I finish that I get another pack from the drawer.

I think that for stainless blades in packaging, storing in a typical household environment will be ok for a long time, and I would think the soft type of packaging would deteriorate or be chewed on by vermin before the blade edge is harmed. But just guessing.

I'm honestly thinking that I could store them all in my bathroom and probably never have an issue, even if they weren't in some sort of airtight container. I'm pretty anal, so I'll likely get some sort of storage device when I have enough blades, which thanks to the influence of this forum is going to be sooner rather than later. I just got my order of 200 Gillette Silver Blues, and I have 100 Astra SP's on the way and 120 Crystal + (Blue Israeli Personna's).

So now I'll have over 450 razor blades by the end of next week. At roughly 1 blade a week that's enough for 8 1/2 years. What the hell am I doing?

I keep 5 to 20 in my bathroom drawer, the rest in my dresser. I'm not worried about humidity (since they are stainless blades and I have had NOTHING else ever corrode in the bathroom), but I just have more room in my dresser.

I'm married, so there's no room in the bathroom. I store all my shave supplies, including brushes, in my bedroom nightstand. It's a rather large nightstand.

Mine are in my bathroom. I keep the unopened packs in zip lock freezer baggies in a cupboard. My opened packs are in a plastic cigarette case in my medicine cabinet.

I keep mine in the bathroom, in a snap lidded container with a couple small silica gel packs like you get with electronics and such. The mirror fogs with hot showers on humid days, but no problem so far. I have about 450 blades on hand.

I'm the same

I use one shelf in my dresser exclusively reserved for shaving supplies. I have my blades in there sorted by type, as well as unused soaps/creams still in their packaging. I pull things from that dresser as I start to use them.

I don't keep a huge stock of blades, usually just a few 5-blade packs. I keep them in a plastic container with a hermetic lid (they are sold as food containers), in which I place a small silica gel bag. This is stored in a drawer outside bathroom. My main goal is to keep them in a low humidity environment until they go into the razor. Stainless steel is not 100 % corrosion proof. Long term exposure to high humidity may lead to the formation of microscopic stains that roughen and dull the blades.

+1 I do the same thing, works great.
