Store brand blades-good quality?

How good are the CVS blades, and also the Personna blades that Walmart sells? How do they stack up against Derbys of Sharks? The reason I ask is that both are available locally and it would be nice to avoid on going shipping costs when ordering online. Thanks!

I get comfortable shaves with the Walmart Personnas. Aside from those, most brick and mortar store blades are pretty expensive and unremarkable in general.

I got myself 100 red pack personnas which I find as good or better than the Walmart sold blades for $12 shipped from West Coast shaving. A much better deal, really.

I agree. I get decent shaves with WM Personna but not as good as Derby and Red Pack Personna......and the Wal-Mart blades are actually a bit more expensive.

CVS blades suck and are pretty expensive. Don't get them. You can get 100 Israelis or Derbys for $10-$13 on ebay, including shipping.

Exact same blade that CVS sells is available at Kroger for $2.39 a 10-pack. They are Personnas with no platinum edge treatment, and no "comfort coating."

The WalMart Personnas at least have the platinum edge hardening. Same blade at Walgreens has coating, but no platinum treatment.

There are basically two choices in brick and mortar: Personnas with and without platinum, with and without coating, and the Gillette Super Stainless at Rite Aid that are grossly overpriced and of poor quality.

I have not tried any of these, but from what I've read, they are definitely NOT worth the trip.

Derbys do not work for me, but Sharks most definitely do. Sharks are a far superior blade for about 1/4 the price of CVS Personnas.

As always, YMMV.

You might want to check out the local Family Dollar/Dollar General for blades. Avoid the packages made in Korea, unless you don't mind Dorcos. Otherwise, the rebranded APs are fine in a pinch.

I have bought DE blades from both Family Dollar, and Dollar General recently. They were both made in Korea, and likely the exact same Dorco's. I don't believe you are going to find any re-branded Red Pack Personna's at either store anymore, and it seems this has been the case for quite a while.
