Stirling’s Sheep - Legendary

I recently ordered samples of all three unscented from stirling.

My experience with all of three unscented Stirling soaps, is that they make a creamy and slick lather and each gives a great post shave feel in their own way.
I ended up ordering a tub of both Naked & Smooth and Unscented with beeswax.
Even though The Unscented Sheep felt great for my skin I was not too fond of the Sheep smell.
I love to eat sheep but when I get to much of the fat I get a little unwell.
A little while after shaving using the soap with Sheep scent it reminds me of that.

In case helpful, I've had good luck overcoming the smell by mixing Sheep with Eucalyptus Mint, and letting it air out in an open shave mug on the counter.

I got into the Beeswax version last year, and have used all 3, but over time, Stirling sheep has remained my solid favorite of the 3. It's just plain Slicker and lathers easier IMO. Post shave is more lanolin and less "waxy" (duh), but pretty equivocal by end of day. Scent preference aside, I have yet to use a bad Stirling product.

The strongly-scented mutton offerings are not personal favorites though- sheep must be difficult to work with.

I prefer to just Own the unscented Sheep in all it's Glory. Baa!!!
Ps. it really isn't offensive. YMMV.

Reading this thread has made me want to try/buy/sample V Stirling’s mutton tallow.
Question: do the Scott Pine Sheep and Electric Sheep have the same performance, lather and post-shave as the ‘unscented’ Sheep? Or is the Sheep simply superior to these two?

I will have to drag out my Unscented Sheep. I think I have one additional unscented tallow product.. I have to look. Maybe Naked and Smooth.... I love the Unscented with Beeswax. That's the only one of the three I've used.

Yes, anything with "mutton" or "sheep" in the name is all the same formula. There is the unscented "SHEEP" and a handful of scented versions, some of which are seasonal/periodic.

Similarly, NAKED & SMOOTH is the unscented beef tallow formula that is used in most Stirling scented soap. NB: This recipe happens to also include lanolin, which is not the same thing as mutton tallow.

UNSCENTED WITH BEESWAX is a 3rd formula. It is beef tallow-based, but excludes almond oil & lanolin, adds beeswax, and tweaks the ratios of other ingredients. It has never been offered in a scented version to my knowledge.

Sheep bath soap bars are excellent too.
I like the Oatmeal Shea Butter (beef) and Scots Pine Sheep quite a bit.
Didn't like the Scots Pine shave soap as much - had a little different odor with the different recipe, although n=1 and could have been batch variation.

Electric Sheep is one of my go-to shaving soaps. I'm scheduling my tub to be exhausted about the time Glacial Electric Sheep comes back online. Can't wait to kick it up a notch. But the Glacial version is seasonal and they took it off the website in August for the year.

great, thanks for the detailed response.
So the choice between unscented sheep, electric sheep, Scot’s pine sheep, Varen is down to scent preference, rather than performance, correct?

Dull yet interesting
I am in now way criticizing those who use soaps with no scents.
But to me, one of the joys of shaving since I switched to traditional methods is the different scents such as Barbershop, Bay Rum, Sandalwood, etc.
Again, no criticism whatsoever. But I don't think I'd enjoy shaving as much without that extra little kick in the morning (even though, truth be told, my sinuses are so bad I often can't smell what I'm shaving with anyway!)

I agree. I love Varen now that I've discovered how it pairs with Aramis, wonderful stuff in the Mutton base. I don't know that I'd like the unscented. I've heard it actually smells like sheep, not sure how pleasant that would be. But Varen is wonderful.

Note To Self: Try Varen.
