Stephan Alpine Menthol Skin Toner

Has anyone used Stephan Alpine Menthol as an aftershave?

I recently received some in an order and just used it today after my shave instead of my usual AV. Wow, this stuff is fantastic. The ingredients are a little different than the average aftershave but I think that's what set it apart in performance. It is very effective.

Ingredients according to bottle: SDA Alcohol 40B, Deionized Water, Boric Acid, Menthol, Camphor, Oil of Lavender, Oil of Peppermint, Mint Green

This stuff packs a mighty cooling menthol & peppermint blast. Probably not as much as Osage Rub, but pretty close, and definitely more than AV Ice Blue. However, the best thing about it is how soothing it is to the skin. They included lavender and peppermint oil and these made my skin instantly feel extremely smooth and relaxed. Right now my skin feels very soft and better than an average shaving day.

The only complaint I have is the smell which is medicinal/Vapo-Rub just like Osage Rub but not as strong. However, this fades quick and the skin soothing properties outweigh the scent.

When I was a kid growing up in Western PA, my barber used Stephen's products. I think that the Menthol is the one I remember most--up until now I've been using Osage Rub to scratch that particular nostalgic itch. I saw some Stephen's AS in a supply store the other day--they had a lilac that might prove to be an interesting counterpoint to Pinaud LV.

Here's an on-line source. Tell me that you don't want to buy a box of 4 x 1 gallon jugs!

Yeah, that is where I purchased the Alpine Menthol. I read on the Stephan Co. website that I think they own Williamsport Barber Supply and that is where they distribute their products from. I also bought some large Wildroot hair groom bottles since that is what I usually use lately and also a bottle of 320 Lotion but haven't tried it yet.

I'll tell you what, if the Alpine Menthol keeps performing like it did today I might indeed just be buying 4 x 1 gallon jugs of it! It really did make my face feel exceptionally refreshed.

I'm using a couple Stephan Co products in my grooming routine now. I'm really liking this company.

Nice! Where did you get it? You are close by me - did you buy locally? I hope? :)

MikeLip, you can see in my above post that I ordered this online from Williamsport Barber Supply. However, there are a couple barber supply stores in Cleveland that might carry it. I have only been to one. It is on the east side over in the Warrensville Heights area and is called JT Bailey. It is hard to find and they have weird hours but they had a pretty good supply of "barber brands" i.e. Master's, Stephan, Lucky Tiger, Pinaud etc. I went a while ago so I don't remember specifically if they carried the Alpine Menthol but I want to say they did, however, I'm really not 100% confident.

The other one I have seen listed is Carson Barber Supply. It looks like it is off of Broadway close to downtown. I haven't made it there yet but they might carry it. If you ever swing by these or any other places let me know, I'd like to hear what they carry. I agree though, it is always better to have a local source available to get supplies instead of having to constantly order online only to add shipping and then have to wait. In this wet shaving hobby it seems that a lot of the stuff we talk about and hold in high regard is very obscure and niche and unless you live in a city like Chicago or New York there is no brick and mortar store to provide supplies. Oh well. Sometimes the chase is half the fun.

I WORK in Warrensville Heights! Right off Miles Road!!!! They are maybe 5 minutes from my office by Randall Park Mall, the ghost town of all abandoned shopping centers.

Haha, that's perfect then. They are actually right across the street from Randall Park Mall. Yeah, what a disaster that place is, a huge abandoned mall is creepy.

I remember when they built it. It was one of the worlds biggest malls and it put Southgate out of business. I was a cool place until the gangs took it over.

Ok so I'm 4 years late for this party but Wow! I found this while investigating the Saint Laurent Mall barber shop in Ottawa, Canada looking for Booster Alpine aftershave. Instead I found Stephan Alpine Menthol Skin Toner. A full litre of the stuff for $14.95! As stated It doesn't have the whoosh of Osage rub, but its got a kick to it. Is not a fragrance that will follow you the whole day but it does leave one feeling clean. And for 14.95 for a litre its a Hell of a price!

Yep same here. I just got a bottle of Alpine Menthol. Stephan's Bay Rum is one of my front line ASes and so I though I would at least try the Alpine Menthol.

I completely agree with the OP other than the medicinal smell which fades fast Stephan's Alpine Menthol leaves your face feeling smooth and refreshed. I live in Phoenix Arizona and so I am curious how the menthol will come across during our warmer months. But for now I can say that Stephan's Alpine Menthol is a winner and will be joining the ranks next to Stephan's Bay Rum.
