What's new

Started restoring a Le Grelot tonight

So My wife is out tonight playing with her band. That gives me a bit of cover for a restoration project.
I picked a small Le Grelot, which just needed a good clean-up and some honing.
The blade was pitted, but not too deep.
The scales appear to be black horn.

I got most of the pitting out already, adjusted the lead spacer and buffed the horn.
When I left off the honing, I was getting HHT-0 on the 8k.
Little break to put the kids to sleep.
Hopefully they'll fall asleep fast and I can resume the honing.
And test shave...

Pictures to follow.

After a long break and having to go back to the buff and rework the bevel, I finally got somewhere.

I put it away for the night and look forward to trying it tomorrow morning.
It is like no other LeGrelot I have seen (and I own a few). This one is much smaller, about 4/8 and almost full hollow.
Anyway, better not get too attached to it as it is intended as a PIF (I am trying to convert my brother in law, to the art of proper manly shaving).

I'm betting that you will be surprised to find out that we are long lost brothers......nice PIF, I hope your bro appreciates it. Good work!

First shave yesterday with it went well.
It passed HHT, but not as clean as I'd like it too.
Still need to run it some more on crOX and give it another try.

As for LeGrelot, I have 2 in my rotation. A quarter hollow 6/8 and a frameback. Both are really nice.

Plus many more on my pile of to be restored...
