Stainless steel razor availability? Feather Portable?

In a recent post about stainless steel razors, someone stated that "Feather Portable" razors were made of stainless steel. The comment, "The SS Feather Portable is available everyday for $11... I think I'll pick one up, and that will scratch my itch for an all Stainless razor. " Is that correct? I thought they were plated brass. I recently purchased four Portables from Pauldog, thinking they were plated brass. I was going to keep one and give the rest away for presents. The price was right. If they are stainless then the price I got them for (Around $8.00 each), including shipping was a tremendous deal.

The Feather Portable is not stainless but a nice plated nickel alloy...very nice for the price. The new FEATHER STAINLESS is all stainless..sell for $160 at Classic Shaving or from Aneurysm in Singnapore ..includes shipping and NO Tax!!!!!!! (that is where I got mine)Look under his link Gentlemen,s Best SC sells PILS ..all Stainless for $245.00.Both of these are top of the line NON adjustible but cool for shaver nuts like most of us. Expensive in a relative way but why not have the BEST !!!! IKON are mostly not available and pure smoke and mirrors wouldn,t even try them. I have one but I bought it on E-Bay..that I trust..Ikon is pure BS. NEVER answers E - Mails..never has any stock and never gets back to you..I sent 6 E-mails ..not a word..horrible business attitude..PURE CRAP ..not his stuff but his attitude.

Yep, the only stainless razors I know of are the Lux, Pils, new Feather, and the Ikon.

I have a Lux waiting for me at the post office (if I ever get out of this damned office), the Pils is in rotation currently and the Feather is in transit.

I'd consider an Ikon if I could be convinced that it is isn't vaporware and that I wouldn't get screwed. Shame, because I like the concept.

I do recommend the Pils - superb razor. If you can stomach $245, you won't be disappointed.

what is a LUX ?

Cold War era Polish razor issued to the troops.
The blade platform is a simple stamping from sheet SS and can have some rough edges, but these can be smoothed out easily and the Lux is a good but rather aggressive shaver.

my lux wasn't rough at all... pot luck i guess, esp considering the stamping procedure used to make it. very nice shaver though.

i got mine nos for $15, but i've seen them go for less on the bst.

Mine had rough edges on the safety bar, but some 400 grit emery paper smoothed it right out.

thanks for the pic Bob, it looks cool, does anyone know if these are still available NOS anywere ?

i picked mine up not too long ago nos on the bst. the only thing is nos for a lux is just in a sealed plastic bag with some cyrillic writing on it... no case, no special packaging, etc. i bought it to use, so it's no longer nos. :tongue_sm

Besides the ones mentioned above the only other all Stainless Steel razor I have encountered is this one:

It is an Olaf Rasmussen Surgical Prep Shaver. It is a well built razor with some heft to it. I assume it is stainless so that it could be sterilized. I loaded it up with a medical grade Personna and it is a great shaver, BBS in three. The patent numbers on the handle are 2455877 and 2549130.
