What's new

St. Peter's Cream Stout.

So, I am almost exclusively a dark beer/stout drinker. Generally, if I can see through it I won't drink it when it comes to beer, so please acknowledge the bias. :biggrin1:

I think that this is pretty much my favorite beer. I've been sipping down one of these almost every other night since I discovered it. (Probably a few years now.)

I'll spare you a description of the flavor because, well quite frankly I'm not drinking it at this very moment and I feel I can echo a thought from the book Fight Club when I write, "The taste of beer only exists between the hours when you start drinking it and when you stop drinking it." More or less.

But I will tell you that it doesn't have the alcohol content that you would perhaps expect from an imperial stout, nor does it possess the chewy/thick richness of an imperial like Ten Fidy from Oskar Blues. (That stuff is motor oil, a real "Man's Beer".) But it is still very rich and surprisingly crisp for a stout.

It also comes in a very handsome green ovular bottle, reminiscent of the colonial era taverns.

All in all, a great beer that I highly recommend.

Looks like some good stuff, but I've never seen it for sale around here. My latest favorite is the Sam Adams Cream Stout.

I've seen their stuff around, but have never picked up a bottle. From what I hear, it is a good representation of the Sweet Stout style.

I completely understand the stout bias, which was very valid until even 5 years ago. There is just too much great beer out there to limit yourslef to one small set of styles.

I have one bottle a Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout I brewed last Summer Solstice. Most of it got drank on last years Winter Solstice, and saved a bottle for this year. Can't wait!

St. Peter's in general is just good, good beer. I like this stout, but their Old Style Porter is even better. In my opinion, of course.
