You guys have spoiled my search image, and I might be better off for it. I'm used to walking into the drugstore and strolling into the shave aisle. There I ignore (I don't even see them, they aren't part of my search image) the rows of cans of goop, the square yardage of hanging cartridges and their plastic holders (a.k.a. razors), and suchlike. I just don't see anything but the little blue and white box that has the shaving soap. I often have to search among the cartridges to find the DE blades, though, because oftentimes there aren't any, so a hard search image for those isn't possible.
I got drug out of my hills today and off to town for a lengthy bout of restocking of necessities. While the sun was still in the eastern half of the sky I requested a short stop at a drugstore. That didn't happen. There was, though, when the sun was far in the west, a final stop at the Overwaitea (a grocery store chain in BC; samo-samo Albertson's or Piggly Wiggly) where SWMBO got the perishables and I wandered into the shaving aisle.
The little white and blue box of shaving soap got caught by my search image and I reached up. My hand quivered, my eyelids fluttered, and my arm stopped. there, to its left was a blue plastic tub of Wilkinson's shaving soap, and there to the right was some shaving oil. Not wanting to overwhelm myself, I forced my quivering reach to the left and grabbed the soap in the blue plastic tub, leaving the puck in the white and blue box sitting. No guarantees mind you, but this old dog might be able to learn a new trick or two after all. I'm not sure of that, but I do know that I have some shaving soap that I have never tried before in some forty years of wet shaving, and it is sitting in the drawer waiting for my next bold move.
Thanks, I think.
