Speick Balsam

Anyone try the new Speick balsam yet? Like many on the board, love the splash -hate the balm. Hoping the Balsam will be the best of both worlds (moisturing and smells great) but I am fighting the urge to order it having just picked up a GEM 1912 and Futur off the BST. IOW my shaving budget has been murdered until 2011.

Lol, I have it and didn't know it.

I thought it was balm in a squeeze tube.

That being said, I like it a lot, but then again I like all the Speick products that I have tried. (Haven't tried the balm yet).

It's very thick coming out of the tube, and a small amount goes a long way. Same aroma as the AS.

I also do not have sensitive skin. If I remember correctly, it is priced very reasonably.

Is this the product you mean? If you look closely you'll see the package is labelled "balsam sensitiv".

AFAIK "balsam" is the German term for "balm". The Tabac packaging is labelled in German, English and French as follows:
After Shave Balsam (German)
After Shave Balm (English)
Baume Apres Rasage (French)

I haven't used their balm in the tube, but I do have the A/S splash, A/S balm (in the bottle), and the moisturizer. Interestingly, the splash and moisturizer smell the same, but the A/S balm (again, in the bottle) is a different smell- more floral and powdery to my nose (and SWMBO, who likes the splash but not the balm). So, hopefully the bottled balm is the odd man out and the balm in a tube smells like it should. BTW, the moisturizer is serious stuff- my skin is normal/oily and I only can use it if I've been sitting in dry heat all day otherwise it's too greasy, so I'm interested in the newer balm also.

Edit: I just noticed the alcohol is the second ingredient in the tubed balm, which is unusual for a balm, especially one marketed for sensitive skin.

But the OP seems to be referring to something in a bottle. I wonder if there is such a critter.

Was just looking at shoeboxshaveshop.com (yes, a mid-morning fix ) and they list the A/S Balm in the bottle as a discontinued item, so from that it looks like the new (and only Speick balm) is the one in the tube. Goods to hear from HEX that they seem to have fixed the scent issue with the balm

Oh no! - Speick Balm in the 5OZ bottle is my favorite. I'd better order one ASAP in case it really has gone the way of so many other goodies. Thanks for the heads up!

Well, knowing the issues I have with my smeller, I put them to the SWMBO test.

I had the balsam on one hand and the splash on the other.

According to SWMBO and who am I to disagree, the balm is smoother/softer, and the splash is a sharper fragrance like a perfume.

I went back for a 2nd pass after they had a moment to soak in and she says that she doesn't like the balm. Quote "It smells like throw-up"

She's nuts, so take this as you will.

Does anyone else have both and can do a smell test ?

Can somebody explain the difference between a balsam and a balm? Not the scent between the Speick versions, just in general.

Dang! I have to pay better attention - I just made a big order, but I did not know this was available.

I really like the SC, A/S splash and EdC, but the balm (in the bottle), while soothing, is a bit off for me, scent-wise. A balm that smells closer to the A/S -EdC would be just the thing.

Sydney Guy has it right - "balsam" is German (and a couple other northern European languages) for a balm or salve.

HEX knows what I mean. The new one labeled "Sensitive" is the one I was inquiring about. Sorry about the ambiguity.

I have the now discontinued Balm in a bottle and wasn't thrilled with it.

Happy to hear the new Sensitive formula in a tube is getting good reviews. Maybe a new years present to myself
