Soaps scent for Newbies

Hi all,
I'm looking at all of these different kind of soaps and in different price ranges and I'm also wondering how they smell? I went into the art of shaving store by me to smell some of them and quickly had a few favorites one was the lemon the other was sandalwood although my wife thought the sandal wood made me smell like her grandfather. So since I have not found a sampler pack of soaps (if there is one please advise) I'm asking you guys to recommend some soaps to try. I like shaving with Bigalow but wanted to add soap to have variety. Right Now I'm using VDH so pretty much anything is a step up. What I'm looking for is a subtle scent that is refreshing and modern and luxurious protection.

Thanks!

You could just order samples from various vendors.
Have a look at Mike's Natural, Mystic Water, Queen Charlotte, Jabonman, and others. Good luck.

That lemon AoS should do well. Another few that come to mind are Harris Arlington, Institut Karité, and Wilkinson stick (not bowl). They are top quality soaps and your grandfather-in-law is unlikely to have worn a scent like them.

For samples try Garry in the vendor section, too.

Art of Shaving Sandalwood is awesome!! In rotation this week for me. Anyway you should enter my sample PIF - I've got a couple of samples from QCS and Mikes. These all have a woodsy note to them. Check out Garry's samples list on the Vendor board too. He's got a TON of samples.

Based on your below comment I might also recommend Institut Karite, Mitchell's Wool Fat and maybe Mike's Natural Soaps Barbershop. All three are fantastic in scent, performance, and protection.

Thanks for the replies these are very helpful. I looked to see if there were any replies and didn't see any so I pulled the trigger on Mike's Lemongrass & Eucalyptus I had the Barber shop in my cart and switched at the last min. I want to order some more stuff from there looks good. I'll be sure to check out the Truefitt & Hill and Mitchell's Wool Fat as well. Thanks!
