Who produces the scents for soaps and creams.

I find some scents similar for different soap makers. For instance, some SV scents are similar to Extro cosmesi.
Is there a scent maker who makes a variety of scents from whom soap and cream makers pick for their products.? Just wondered.

There are big commercial enterprises that sell both essential oils and fragrance oils that are used for making scents in soaps, lotions, etc. Even perfume houses may buy from these enterprises.

The art in scent making is in the blending of the various scents, in choosing which scents to pair with which lther scents, and in what ratio, and what overall scent strength.

It can be likened to cooking, in a sense. Most people have access to salt, pepper, garlic, thyme, butter, vinegar, etc, etc. The great chef is the one who utilizes these widely available ingredients in the perfect way to make food that makes you close your eyes and sigh.

Likewise, a great perfumer takes fragrance oils and essential oils that are available to everybody and blends them in ways that make you close your eyes and sigh.

It's also, therefore, not surprising, given that they are all 'cooking with the same ingredients' (in a sense), that many soap scents would smell similar. And going one step further, I think it is likely that there are lots of pre-existing 'scent blends' that proved to be popular that are available already mixed properly. This would be like a home chef buying a container of 'Emeril spice' or 'taco spice blend' or something similar, relying on somebody else to blend the spices expertly for them. So it is possible that some of the soaps you are using may have been scented with exactly the same blend of scent oils.

Some soapers make a point of letting the buyer know that they concoct all their fragrances in house. Barrister and Mann comes immediately to mind. This would mean that the scents in all Barrister and Mann soaps were crafted by Will or one of his associates at Barrister and Mann. There are likely more who do the same, taking pride in making their own scents in house (just remembered LA Soap Company as another of these; there used to be a narrative on that site in which John explained how they made one of their scents; Will also tells stories about some of his scents, as well).

I don't know who makes the scents for the soaps, but for sure, they are different from the perfumes. The probable reason for this is the cheaper and mainly synthetic ingredients in the soaps. In fact, there is nothing wrong with synthetics, they are used everywhere, even in expensive perfumes. With synthetic fragrances, however, there are also good and bad ingredients, so the price is different. The very fact that the same named scent note in a nice perfume smells different to the same scent note in a soap, definitely more unrealistic, cheaper. Another big downside to the fragrances in some artisanal soaps is that there is no control over the ingredients that go into it. This is the reason why people often feel burning, tightness, itching... during and after shaving.
Personally, I get my best and most comfortable shaves with unscented soaps and aftershaves and balms. Zingari Men ones are especially good.
